Guest natensarah
I have a kindergartner & 2nd grader both in public school in Spanish immersion programs. I am hiring a friend who is a native speaker to tutor them, but she is not a teacher so I want some easy-to-follow curriculum with portions they can do on their own each day, as well. Any suggestions? Maybe I should just have her read and talk to them and go with one of the online programs?
Ariston
Rod and staff is very easy to follow but may be too much for summer work. It's very 'schooly' which may or may not appeal. It's all in Spanish, for Spanish teachers and Spanish students, but if your kids have basic comprehension they should be able to follow along. There are daily bible readings and activities, but those can easily be skipped. Just realized every sentence above had 'but' in it....guess I'm trying to say there are pluses and minuses :) Eta : calico is another immersion program that looks good and easy to teach. Looks like it has more diversity of activities than R&S (songs, games, etc.) but it's $$$ (I think 249.) R&S is a lot of worksheets and cutting and pasting which are fun or torturous depending on your kids.
ByGrace3
Check out the link in my siggy. I have put together a program of games and interactive activities for some basic immersion. Something might be helpful there...depending on their level. Either way, play lots of games all in Spanish. They will learn a ton! ETA: with a native speaker available I wouldn't waste time with a workbook or much of a curriculum. I would play lots of games and read lots of books. Just lots of targeted interaction (directed play and conversation). What a great opportunity! :)
morgan
My daughter was in a Spanish immersion prek/k and I think that just having a native speaker to talk to and read with would be wonderful. I am not sure I would pick a curriculum because they probably know more than most Spanish programs aimed at their ages. Your friend probably knows plenty of wonderful rhymes and songs to teach them in Spanish too. It will be lots of fun I am sure. I'm jealous :)
