Luanne
Refrigerate or not? We've never bought a kiwi before (only eaten ones someone else bought). Today my daughter bought one and asked me if I should put it in the fridge or not. I don't know.
mlktwins
I keep mine in the fridge. We like them chilled :-).
Lara in Colo
If they aren't ripe, keep them on the counter. (they need a gentle give, like a tomato)-- If they are ripe and need to last a while, cool. Other than those reasons, it is a matter of preference.
bolt.
I keep them in the fridge until I want them to ripen, then take them out for 2 or 3 days (from hard to yielding). They ripen very slowly in the fridge too, just not like they do when they are out.
AMJ
Yup, in the fridge when I want them to keep a while, and on the counter to ripen. Also, the peel is edible. Lots of people trim it off, finding the fuzzy nature rather off-putting. But it's a matter of personal preference, and when sliced the peel adds quite the visual component. Just be sure to wash them well.
AMJ
Oh, and don't eat more than 6 or 8 in one sitting. Unless you have a problem with "regularity", then eat a dozen!
Lilaclady
I refrigerate. My kids love them but they are a bit expensive so I don't buy as much as they will like. Yummy though

Flowing Brook
If they are unripe I leave them out. If they are ripe I refrigerate them to keep them from going bad before I eat them.
Guest
This made me laugh because I think of conversations I have with one of my friends in New Zealand. Every time I talk about eating kiwi, she acts horrified. I always forget that kiwi to them is a bird, lol.
Seasider
We learned a neat way to eat kiwi. We do not care to eat the skin, but I always felt like I wasted too much fruit by peeling and slicing. Now we just cut the kiwi in half and scoop the middle out with a spoon, a biteful at a time. When it's done, the remaining skin reminds me of a hummingbird nest. Arcadia
My mum and I prefer New Zealand golden kiwifruit (http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/photograph/17724/gold-kiwifruit) compare to the green kiwifruit because it is sweet. We use a spife to eat. We keep ripe ones in the refrigerator.
Melissa in Australia
I have never ever heard of refrigerating them.

I found the refrigeration, ripening, and eating of Kiwi to sound very very strange and disgusting. I don't make them eat the skin or any fuzzy bits, though." (Gwah-ha-ha...)
Seasider
Hahahaha!!! Oh, Ruth, I am sorry! We DO NOT eat raw birds with a spoon - blech!
lmrich
My in- laws grow kiwi and keep them in the fridge. If they are hard (unripe) place on the counter.
