Brandicm
I have Vol 1 of the Human Odyssey. I've read on different posts about student pages, do they still make them? I cannot find them anywhere. I'm wondering how to use this with my 6th grader. Do you read a chapter a week and then outline and read other books as suggested in WTM? momto2Cs
We generally just read a chapter each week, and some good historical fiction to go alongside. My kids are working on pictorial Book(s) of Centuries as well (see pictures 2 and 3 here). I think these are the student pages you're talking about. ~Anna~
We read Human Odyssey along with OUP's The World in Ancient Times series. Right now we just read, read, read. Also historical fiction to go along with the time period. (I am working on an even better booklist, but there is one listed on my blog if you click in my signature) We also use this book and this book for fun. Mom in High Heels
I think these are the student pages you're talking about. Yes, those are the pages. We use them and I really like them. Not every lesson has one though. I also have the teacher's manual, which gives oral questions for each lesson. The answers to the online quizzes (if you use the K12 school) are there too, but the questions aren't. Bummer. It is meant to do ancients and middle ages in one year, but I am splitting it up into 2 years. It's easy to do that. Actually, we're going to do the Romans at the beginning of next year too, because we spent so much time studying Egypt and Greece (about 8-10 weeks each), we won't get to them this year. We both really love HO. It's such a great book. It's well written and engaging. He could read it himself, but I read it out loud, because I like it too! Acadie
Mom in High Heels, do you use the student pages more than the teacher's manual, or vice versa? I'm wondering if I can spring for just one, not both. Thanks, Amy
Mom in High Heels
We use the SP more, simply because it has the worksheets in it, but I think the TM is really good to have, because it goes into more details on the lesson, gives internet links and I really like the questions. I probably wouldn't think of half of them. They also show you how some of the assignments can be laid out. You can certainly do it without the TM, I just like it. I paid less than $25 for both the SP and the TM on Amazon. You can find the SP here ($9) and the TM here ($11).
Brandicm
Can you incorporate story of the world with this? I bought SOTW not realizing how easy book 1 is. It would be fine for my 4th grader but I'm not sure what to do for my 6 th grader. Do I use 2 different books with the kids? Thank you ladies for the links to the student and teacher books. Not sure how I missed that on Amazon.

Not sure how I missed that on Amazon. I guess you could use the books together, but I don't think there's anything in HO that your 4th grader wouldn't understand. I think the SP would be too difficult, but you could always make something similar with easier questions and/or do a project together with both of them. TO find those books on Amazon, you have to type in 'intermediate world history teacher guide' or 'intermediate world history student pages.' I have no idea why.
