cdrumm4448
Beginning today, I shall go through all of my currently owned curriculum (wherever it is stashed), and begin actually using everything I own. I will work through those things I was so excited to purchase and receive, then stuffed into a cabinet or bookshelf. I will not purchase additional materials (I am looking at three new things right now!) before we complete what we have. Who's with me? I need accountability. Candid
Umm, how about a tag on, that you will sell items that it is clear you aren't going to use?
klmama
You could even give away the things you aren't going to use. It's very freeing.
klmama
ETA: Sorry, duplicate post. I was trying to add that anyone doing this should remember any digital curricula they downloaded, such as Lively Latin, Great Courses lectures, etc.
cdrumm4448
Umm, how about a tag on, that you will sell items that it is clear you aren't going to use? I really like this. We are prepping for a gigantic garage sale at the farm this summer.

I had the curriculum all picked out for next year and the money set aside from our tax return and then *poof* the money was gone and will not be coming back. Good-by dream of pretty curriculum packages from MP. So first I am going to go through my bookshelf over the next few weeks and sort out what I can use. Then I am going to go through all my digital downloads and see what I can use (I have a horrible printer, so I can't rely on being able to print very much; it will have to be used from the computer screen or my Kindle). Then I am going to go through all my bookmarks and see what other digital content is available. By then it should be July, lol, I have a lot of stuff saved and bookmarked after six years of home schooling! Here's to being thrifty and prudent with the resources we already have! :cheers2:
justamouse
I started doing that last year and you know what? I had really great stuff that worked.

Lang Syne Boardie
No, no, no. Think about why you rejected it! Some of it you might have rejected out of laziness, being too busy, or feeling too intimidated to unpack it and figure it out. That stuff deserves a second look. But what about all that you rejected because it was stupid. it was too inconvenient and expensive to print out. it was impossible for your child to follow. it was against your educational philosophy. it took too long each day. your child hated it. you hated it. you wanted to stab yourself in the eye with a fork every time you opened the IG. child felt the same about the homework. Don't use that stuff just because you once paid money for it! How about a goal of "dealing with" all your curriculum, in whatever manner is appropriate for each piece? Set up some boxes labeled keep donate sell trash and start sorting. You'll solve your clutter problem without putting your family through studies it neither needs nor wants. thewaka
you wanted to stab yourself in the eye with a fork every time you opened the IG. First, I must say that I am *so glad* I'm not the only one who thinks this! My children think I am nuts whenever I say I need a fork lol OP, I am with you, but agree it doesn't have to be used if it was rejected for good reasons. I had already been thinking about it this week so now I feel I must get to it! I know I have some great things I can use (especially downloads tend to be forgotten). Thanks for the thread to get me in gear!

I assumed the OP meant the purchased but never used items (like the box of unopened RS games that stares me down from the top shelf), not the used and hated pile. The dislikes don't hang around long enough on my shelf to ever be considered with the next child. :tongue_smilie:

I think I have at least 5. I need to be stopped for my own good.
PachiSusan
I actually only have a few extras and I can commit to using them!! :) SHe's doing Art now, something I have 3 full plans of, but never use it.

momacacia
Me three! Lol Really, it's just RS4K Pre-level Chemistry and Biology and finished the World Geography curriculum for the year. I could so easily get starry-eyed about a more 'advanced' science curric or skipping quite a few of the countries at the end of the geography curriculum, but I am going to use what I've got before next fall dog gone it!
