violamama
If he feels up to it, should I let my 5 yo swim on Friday? He'll have antibiotics on board and the eardrum is intact. No cold symptoms so far... just wondering if he should skip it.
violamama
I did some googling and it looks like he should be okay.
Tammi K
That's what I would do. Forty-eight hours on antibiotics is good coverage and if he's feeling well, why not?
ashfern
I used to get swimmer's ear all the time. My mom would put those wax ear plugs in my ears and I could swim.
bettyandbob
Is this an inner ear infection (cold/sinus related) or outer ear infection (due to water staying in the ear behind wax)? If you've been on antibiotics you should be fine either way, but I wanted to point out the difference. I'm a swimmer who is prone to swimmer's ear. If you dc gets swimmer's ear, once the infection is gone the key is prevention. Learn how to clear wax ou of the ears so that water cannot get trapped in the outer ear. In The Great White North
He should be fine. The only thing that might hurt is going deep, if the ear isn't totally clear, but a 5 year old class isn't likely to go to the bottom of the deep end. My ear can hurt when cold water hits it if it is stuffed up, even if it's not infected.
