hsing1
Our local elementary school day goes for 6 hours (8-2). I'm wondering how long schools allow for recess and lunch. Do any of you know? Thanks!
Brindee
Our local Christian School goes from 8:20-3:15. I believe the have a 15 min. morning recess, 30 minute lunch, and 15 minute afternoon recess. Though they have PE some days too, not sure how many days they have it. 6 hours seems very short to me, especially taking into consideration all the down time they have during the day! When does their school year start and end for them?
momofkhm
They go in at 8, out at 2:45. 15 minute morning recess, 30 for lunch that includes a recess. That's it!
jenn-
DD went from 8am to 245pm with at 25min lunch and NO recess. Yep no recess at all for any grades. She did have structured PE classes a couple days a week. I will admitt this was one of the last straws for me when it came to deciding to pull her. I just couldn't wrap the idea around my head that kids didn't have recess. I had recess until i went into high school.
Caroline
My son goes from 8 to 2:20. He has a 25 minute lunch and two twenty minute recesses. That still gives them plenty of time to get everything in. He doesn't have homework.
ravengal
My dd got on the bus at 8:10 and got home at 3:30. "Instructional" time was from 8:40 until 3:10, minus one recess period and one lunch period totalling 55 minutes.

When does their school year start and end for them? According to their website they start Sept. 2 and end June 8 for a total of 175 days. Pamela H in Texas
6 hours is amazingly low! Our prek-Kindy school is 7:50-2:50, so is the 1st-2nd grade school. The 3rd/4th grade school is 7:50 to 3:10. The 5th-6th grade school is 7:50-3:20. Golly, with all the schools starting at the same time, it'd be tough to get everyone there but not sitting there for awhile if you had one in each school! Would stink to drive all over town to get kids to school too. High school is by the 5/6 school and the Jr high is smack-dab in the middle of town. I don't know what they do for recess and lunch here. When my kids went (not this town--8 weeks in 2001), they had 25 min for lunch, I think. They had morning recess and afternoon recess, rarely both outside due to weather here though. Both were like 15 min. P.E. was twice a week for like 30 min. This was a nationally recognized school. STinks! They did have some other great things though like centers in 1st grade, relaxed independent work (like lying on the floor in the hall) in 4th, parents could eat with the kids any day, no silent lunches, library time multiple times per week, etc.
