Texting Etiquette Question

This past week I've received separate texts from friends and family in other countries. The time difference meant the texts came in in the early hours of the morning. My phone was turned down both times so I didn't see them till later in the morning but sometimes I forget to mute it at night. Once a text came in at 5 a.m. and because I'd forgotten to turn the phone down it did wake me up.

When I text someone I'm mindful of the time difference, and if there is no time difference then I don't text after a certain hour. But I'm thinking that maybe that's not the case for everyone. So, when you send texts to different countries/time zones do you take into consideration the time it will be when the text arrives?

I try to be mindful, but I know that a lot of people here simply forget there's a time difference at all. I know my housekeeper is always amazed when I Skype family back home and it's morning there and evening here.

Leave your phone in another room! That would seriously peeve me. I just had to ask someone, for the third time, not to text me jokes, cute sayings, bible verses, whatever. I do not want these things by text. Leave texting for things I need to know NOW, not something you could email me for!

I pay attention to time zones but I don't think my family does and sometimes fails to realize they're earlier than we are and also maybe they stay up later. I don't mind usually if my phone isn't on silent, but I normally do try to silence it just in case so I'm not annoyed.

If it was a big problem, I'd ask family to watch the clock but silent is good enough for me too.
