ExcitedMama
DS is 3 and loves books. He points out letters everywhere. I bought the OPGTR mostly so I could follow his lead but it seems too schoolish and serious for his age. But AAR Pre level looks fun. He doesn't understand rhymes which I saw in their samples so it seems like he would learn a lot. What age would be good to start it? I don't want him to be too young to follow the program or be too old for it. Any reviews of pre level? Thanks!
Stef03
AAR Pre-1 is fun! You could start at age 3 and skip the more "meaty parts" (lessons on rhyming / syllables) and come back to them later if he's not ready for them yet. We're using it with a 5yr old, she knows all her sounds and basic CVC words but she's learning quite a bit from those meatier sections so it's working great for her. I'll start my youngest on it when she's 3 at a more gentle pace :)
Arboreal TJ
I started my DD when she was 2, begging to do school, I promise I'm not one of those crazy overachiever parents! We did/are doing what Stef03 suggested skipping the meaty parts and revisiting. It's a lot of bun! I say mo for it. :-)
Blessed mom
I think it would be great for an interested three year old!
lexi
I started it with my dd when she was 3. She's about to turn 4 and she will finish it in a few months. She loves it. She's learned a ton. Some of the lessons were difficult for her and some we reviewed many times until she got it. But I think it's a great foundation for reading. MorningGlory
I agree with all the previous posters. We have used AAR pre this past year with our 3 year old daughter, and she has LOVED it. Highly recommend it. Be sure to get Ziggy the Zebra puppet. :)
kdownie
I used it with my 3 year old, and her 2 year old brother tagged along. He mostly would repeat the name of the letter and scribble his coloring page. She went through the program fairly completely. She BEGGED for the game with syllables, which I didn't think she would be ready for. DS will go through it again this coming school year, after he is 3, maybe even waiting til 3.5 or older, as he has some delays. It is a really fun program that dd loved!
