Possibly a dumb Q about spelling/vocab...

I am in the midst of trying to figure out this part of our LA curriculum for next year. I like the looks of both Sequential Spelling and Wordly Wise 3000. But what is the technical difference between the two of them? What exactly does WW3000 do?

I've also never quite understood the definition difference between spelling and vocabulary. Is spelling the mechanics of the word while vocabulary is the context?

Spelling is learning the various rules (like when to use -ch vs. -tch or -ge vs. -dge). I highly recommend using one of the Orton-Gillingham phonics-based spelling programs like Spalding, All About Spelling, Logic of English, How to Teach Spelling, Apples & Pears, etc.

Vocabulary teaches the meaning of words. At your children's ages, you probably don't need a formal vocabulary program just yet.

Thank you!

So if we successfully did OPTGR / ETC, we should avoid Sequential Spelling? I like that it focused on patterns. I know that AAS will not work in this house b/c of all of the extra bits. A&P was on my tentative choice before I learned about Sequential Spelling.

I'm glad I don't need to worry about formal vocabulary. I got that initial quick stab of "am I selling my child short b/c I didn't start this in K b/c they have the curriculum available for K?"
