Ok, and now I'm in Google chrome, where I can...you know...paragraph. LOL

I find that I need to make sure that we are having family prayer morning and night (which we always do), FHE, and also a daily scripture reading. Sometimes it's all together as a family, and sometimes it's during school time with just me and my youngest, if my dh and my college student have to leave early in the morning.

I also really try hard not to complain about anything my son has to do with regard to Young Men or Scouts. We try to be as supportive as we can be.

Service is also important. Not just church service, but community service as well. It helps us not be so self-centered.

Exercise and eating properly are crucial for me, as is getting enough sleep at night. It really helps me to be patient. And I need all the help I can get, because I'm not naturally a patient person.

Having that "house of order" is also high on my list. You can't always...ok, you never can...eat off my floors, but things have to be picked up, vacuumed and dusted. That keeps my mind clear. I set my timer for 15 minutes several times during the day just to clean. It really helps!

Those are just a few things off the top of my head. I'll come back later when I have dinner accomplished. LOL

Some days it's harder than others, but I really do believe that prayers and scriptures help keep me on the right path. Our goals for our family are pretty simple. Help them to develop a testimony of the gospel, to love and rely on their Savior, Jesus Christ, to find someone they can marry in the temple, and to learn to serve others. We try to make sure that our activities and our home are supportive of that goal. Some days we do better than others. But that's what the Atonement is for. And I rely on it heavily.

This is good stuff. This is what I want. I used to be mostly there, most of the time (well, except for YM/scouts, which we've given up on for various ASD related reasons). We're good about prayer and FHE, but family scripture study is almost non-existent. We're eating better most of the time now that I'm up for real cooking most days, and I've been walking the dog for a bit of exercise, though not as regularly as I should and I need to get back to my yoga and weight routines soon. (I threw my "trick" shoulder out the other day, which says to me I'd better get back on the weight routine asap. Which means I need to clear a little space.) Sleep has been hard. I'm not sure how much of it is a medical issue and how much is I just don't want to go to bed because the house is so quiet and peaceful at night when everyone is sleeping, and if I go to bed it will suddenly become "tomorrow" and that seems overwhelming.

But just now I feel like I'm living in a landfill. I'm not sure the last time the house was actually all picked up, all at once. I make clean spots, but then everyone thinks that's the best place to set things down, and literally ten minutes after I cleared it off it's full of junk again. They've all forgotten how to clean up after themselves, and I'm just now getting back in the swing of things myself after being sick the first half of November, pregnant the second half and all of December, in the hospital the first half of January, recovering from surgery the second half, and recovering at home from the stroke and the surgery since then. My energy levels have been low, and it's been pretty easy to just go in my room and close the door and tell myself I'll put it all back together later. But now it's later, and it's AWFUL. The house wasn't great at the beginning of all this because it was hard to keep up with everything for the months dh was in Maryland taking care of his parents and I was single-momming it at home.

I've just made a new chart which I will be introducing during our "Household Hint" segment of FHE on Monday. It divides the shared areas of the house into 4 zones, and assigns each zone to a family member (to be rotated each week at FHE) to be in charge of keeping it tidy-ish. I'm hoping it will make them all feel a little more invested in getting the physical environment back under control. At the very least it will tell me who to nag for what. Baby steps, I guess.

My dinner is beeping. I'll be back again later too.
