elegantlion
I don't use shampoo, this conditioner is like nectar from the gods. I got a bottle for Christmas, it's not even half gone and I have long hair.
AMJ
I'd recommend a leave-in conditioner. I use one from Garnier Fructis (sp?). Works well on my hair, DD11's hair (both straight) and DD8's hair (curly).
OrdinaryTime
I just started the Curly Girl regime. I bought a sulfate free shampoo/conditioner and a silicone free curling cream. I stopped using a brush or comb on my hair. I only use a very wide-tooth comb on my hair while in the shower. I stopped using a regular towel on my hair and instead wrap it up in an old pillowcase. I only blow dry with a diffuser until my hair is 60% dry. My hair has gone from very dry and frizzy to ringlet curls in a week. In fact, I feel like my hair is getting over moisturizered, but I think it is just that I don't know what it feels like to have hair that actually has its natural oils in it. Dustybug
Stop using standard shampoos/conditioners. Either ditch shampoo altogether or get only sulfate free kinds. I shampoo about every 2-3 days and then condition every day with a sulfate free condtioner. Then I use a leave in conditioner as well. Word Nerd
I comb conditioner through my hair (sometimes after using a sulfate-free shampoo, depending on the day) and only use a few splashes of water to rinse. I leave most of the conditioner in as a leave-in and apply a little gel while it's still wet. I use a microfiber towel (or a T-shirt if I don't have one with me) and "plop" while I'm getting ready, then let it air dry or partially dry with a diffuser. I don't have dry, fuzzy hair anymore, and it used to get very dry, especially in winter. I'm sure a lot of my problem was shampooing too often. Ameena
Garnier Hydra Recharge. Seriously - I never buy Garnier, but I got some to test and WOW. First time in my entire life that I could brush through my hair without it hurting from snarls, even right after washing.
ZooRho
I don't have Super curly hair but it does have some and it has gotten curlier the longer I've done this and that is NOTHING-well no poo as we call it. http://www.naturemoms.com/no-shampoo-alternative.html I've probably been no poo for about 3-4 years now. I do occasionally use shampoo-I have a natural bar shampoo, or I let my hairdresser do it probably 2-3 times a year. and I have a natural conditioner bar I use too. I probably use the shampoo bar 4 times a year I love the way my hair looks with this method. Anyway, NO Poo. there are more websites if you search. I do 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda in about 16 oz of water, pour over and scrub in . and then a tablespoon or 2 of the apple cider vinegar in the cup with water. And I only do that once a month maybe 2-3. I do scrub it daily with just water.
laughing lioness
Ya'll are the best. This is so silly but I'm sooo relieved to hear your recommendations- my hair is tangled and snarly all the time or straightened and just heavy. I did try no-poo for a while but I hated the way it felt. I might try it again- and getting a wide tooth comb this week! Thank-you :001_smile:
ZooRho
I started the no poo thing one Aug when I didn't have much going on and felt it would be okay to look a bit worse, but i don't feel I ever had a yucky stage. I am also very happy to think about the money I've saved with this too. It is also about finding the balance with the baking soda- how much how often- I can start telling when I'm past due for the baking soda, and then also the apple cider vinegar. ebunny
Shampoo every 2-3 days instead of every day. I don't use a conditioner. For some reason, the silicones make my hair frizzy the day after. Hot oil massage the night before. No blowdrying, flat ironing, or heat of any kind. I don't use anything other than a wide tooth comb. No brush. ETA: i have waist length, thick wavy-curly hair. I rarely shampoo and I use Kinky Curly Knot Today and make my own flax seed gel (which is ultra easy and cheap), I tried loads of products before Kinky Curly, and I have tried to get away from it since it is so expensive, but it is really the only thing that works on my hair without depositing gunk onto it. Sometimes, when winter is being quite brutal, my hair is a bit dry, but the rest of the year it is wonderful and I'm usually quite happy with it. MY hair is so tangled and snarled when I wet it I dread combing it. Same with when I wake up in the a.m. I do have a deep conditioner that I love but as soon as I take a shower its snarled again.
