BrandonMommy
Are there any all-in-one kits or other science programs that would go well with BFSU for K/1st grade?
Arboreal TJ
I've been looking too, with no luck. Hopefully someone will chime in. There seems to be a crisis of quality in the science kit supply industry. Every time I get excited about a kit it turns out to be cheap plastic equipment packaged in a fancy box. momma2three
I'm looking too, and not finding much. And it's hard to integrate BFSU with the other early elementary science programs out there, because it's organized in a very different way. Five More Minutes
I used RS4K as a text along with BFSU for some threads. It was okay, but the experiments were meh. I have used Lego Simple Machines (Elementary) along with some of the physics lessons in BFSU with good success. I also really like Thames and Kosmos kits, but they often seem a bit older for my kids. I tried one of the Young Scientists kits -- ugh. My latest plan? TOPS science units. We're going to do the radish unit this month as we walk through some of the BFSU plant life lessons. I feel better about this than any of my other choices so far! :-)
kirstenhill
I agree with the others...the scope and sequence of BFSU is just so very, very different that no one other science program is going to "mesh" very well. I think you can supplement with topic-oriented kits as appropriate (say, a crystal growing kit when you are on the lesson involving crystals), but we have also found the quality of many pre-packaged products we have bought or received as gifts over the years to be quite poor. There are tons of awesome ideas/resources out there, but if you want to add to what BFSU suggests, you are probably better off searching per topic. We like magic school bus videos, Bill Nye the Science Guy, the Happy Scientist and lots of random you tube videos. Pinterest is full of interesting activity/experiment ideas -- see the link in my siggy to the collaborative BFSU pinterest boards I host if you haven't seen them already. SeaConquest
I am also looking for kits to go with BFSU, so giving this a bump. Kristen, thank you for the Pinterest links.
