Dmmetler
I'm considering getting it for DD as her "Fun" summer math. http://www.tip.duke.edu/node/
brownie
Wow I've never heard of this but ds loves secret codes. I just brought home 2 books from the library and he is thinking of doing next year's science project on this topic. How does this work? It says independent...is it self-paced? Can you start whenever you want? Is there a teacher at all? He might find it too easy..he is finishing 6th grade, but then again it's not too expensive.
Momof3littles
I asked this not too long ago as well. Looks like mama-san had a child who took the course and enjoyed it. http://forums.welltr...tional-testing/ eta I also recently saw that Khan now has something with cryptography, but I don't know what age or grade level it is geared toward. I was looking at something else on Khan and saw it on there a few weeks ago. https://www.khanacademy.org/math/applied-math/cryptography/crypt/v/intro-to-cryptography
brownie
Cool! Thanks! I showed it to dh and he wasn't sure...that surprised me, but we'll see. It's either that or the AOPS AMC8 course.
Dmmetler
My DH commented that HE wanted to take it ;). I expect we'll do it. I think DD is ready for a break, though. We had tears over rate problems with two unknowns in LoF yesterday, and that's the first time she's cried over math in a long time.
PinkyandtheBrains.
My ds13 took this because he loves codes. He really enjoyed it. My son was 12 when he took it and it was fairly easy, but he still found it interesting and fun. He worked at his own pace and I was his "mentor" we would just discuss what he was learning and checked out some books about cryptography. brownie
I posted here years ago! My son did end up doing the Duke Tip course. For the cost, it was worthwhile. Now he plans to be a computer scientist and is fairly knowledgeable about things like hacking competitions. So while I bet he doesn't remember this course, I think it helped widen his exposure.
