Parrothead
It is Good Friday - a fast and abstain day. My parish is hosting a bread and water dinner this evening. Tomorrow at the Vigil the two girls I've been teaching confirmation class to will be getting confirmed. And we have a birthday to celebrate this weekend. What are your plans? madlibs
My family and I are attending the Veneration of the Cross tonight at our parish. Then tomorrow night, DH and I will be entering the church at Easter Vigil. I'm so excited. I can't wait for my first Communion. We will all attend Easter morning service together on Sunday. I'm looking forward to my first mass as a Catholic. Have a blessed weekend! Robin
Starr
My Good Friday is shifting this year. I'll be driving during our service to pick up dd. She's arriving back from a college trip to Turkey. We're praying she makes her connection north, it's looking good. It's a 3 hour drive to the airport. Tomorrow is the Easter program for children in the morning. Ds is madly finishing a movie for the program. We love the Easter Vigil! One of our college students will be baptized! I've got food shopping to do. Some more baking for the reception after the Vigil and dinner for dds friends/college group Sunday eve. And, well, someone needs to get her back to Vermont on Monday. :svengo: It's either a 3 hour drive to the train leaving at 5 am or 5 1/2 hour drive leaving later. justamouse
What a gorgeous Vigil! My oldest son also attended with us, my 4 littles served, and Mr. # 6 got to ring the bells during the Gloria! :D I had to smell # 3's hair all night because he was holding the censor. I told him he's forbidden to take a shower. :D Happy Easter! For those who don't know about the Vigil, it starts in the dark (the night starts with Christ dark int he grave, and as the service goes on, more light until it's brilliant), we light candles, and then the Extsultet is sung! brehon
So, here's a funny about Great Vigil. My ds6 was up in the choir loft with me last night. His godfather (who is the director and one of my oldest friends) let him ring one of the little handbells during the Gloria. Apparently, ds got a little too close to the rail for his godfather's comfort, not because of the fear that ds might fall over, but that he might let go of the bell and send it flying down onto the hapless congregation. After I moved ds back a bit I told my friend that there was no need to worry because he gave a 6 yo boy a noise maker and permission to make noise in Mass. Jesus Himself wasn't going to get that bell from that boy. Man, I haven't laughed so hard in a while.
