raindrops
I have one week to take advantage of the Math Mammoth gr 1-6 sale, and now I'm having second thoughts because I may switch to Beast Academy for 3rd grade. I've read Beast Academy is a full curriculum, but I'm wondering if I'd want MM too. I want to keep it simple.
fourisenough
We use MM as our main program, but BA is a beloved supplement. Some use Beast as a math spine, but since the program is just being published, I don't feel confident going that route. We have just finished MM 4A and are taking a Beast break. We were both so excited to do math this morning! Such an alluring program, but I 'blame' her fantastic mental math skills, deep conceptual understanding and general zest for math on MM. It is a gem, but the two together are even better.
momma2three
All of the research I've done (ie reading threads on here) leads me to the conclusion that most kids aren't really ready for BA until after they finish MM3A. So if you're starting on the ground floor, that means you will use fully 1/2 of the light blue MM series. And since it's currently 50% off, you'll use what you pay for! LOL, that was kind of a joke. We've only done MM1A so far, and I like it. I'd like to switch to BA, but at this point I'm going to hold off until after we finish MM3. And then I'll probably do a combination of the two. MM completely lacks frills, and it's self-directed (no teacher's guide), so I think it will be useful as enrichment or a secondary curriculum.
