MellowYellow
Do I need to buy both the workbook and the level 1-4 text, or can I get by with just the workbook?
Five More Minutes
You just need the workbook. The text gives you the philosophy and the method for selecting your own passages for copywork and narration. The workbook gives you the passages already selected, along with notes to you as an instructor.
kiwik
Does the text give you information on how to write the questions? I don't mind choosing the text but am considering buying the workbook because I am hopeless at the question part.

Well, it gives you some sample lessons of a few weeks for each year, along with the types of questions that SWB would suggest asking for those lessons. (As far as I know, these samples are just taken from the workbooks.) So there are ideas there, but not the type of hand-holding I needed for asking questions, particularly those that guide summaries as I've encountered so far in WWE 2. kiwik
I think for language arts I need more handholding. Thanks.
Mom2TheTeam
So, if you get the workbook, you don't need the text? I have been waiting for the text from my library. Someone has it and it's overdue. :glare: I am curious to see what she has to say. I wasn't necessarily planning to actually implement the program at this point. However, I did wonder about the workbook v. the "text" book. I like a lot of hand holding. :)
kiwik
Have you downloaded the sample pages for the workbook and the text from peace hill press?

skeeterbug
I have both. Because I've chosen to use the workbook rather than choose my own selections, the text mostly sits on my shelf. I pull it out every once in a while to look at what's coming next.
boscopup
You just need the workbook. Also, I highly recommend purchasing the $3.99 download of SWB's lecture on teaching writing in the elementary years. http://peacehillpres...grades-mp3.html This explains what you're doing and why. That info is in the text, but the lecture is cheaper and more enjoyable. ;) I have the text, and I really never use it. I too needed more handholding even for questions about a passage. I'm a math girl, not a lit girl. :tongue_smilie: The WWE workbooks are easy to use, and my son loves the passages. These workbooks have introduced us to some books we otherwise may not have ever read. We don't read all the books in the workbooks, but the passages that tease us and make us want more, I add those books to the read-aloud list. :)
