kfeusse
I just received "Write On" in the mail today. I read through the teacher pages, but I am sort of confused by something. Do you go through each level (1-4) with each page of the book or what? They gave an example using Write On 15...but then I am trying to put that into use using the first Write On...how do I go through each level with that one? Please help me figure out just how this is to be used. It looks good...but I am just a little uncertain how to use it best. Thanks so much!!! kirstenhill
We just started using it, but as I read through the instructions I got the impression that you might not go through all 4 levels with all the Write On assignments -- that the idea of doing it all four times is going to be most helpful for those once-every-five bolded assignments. I don't think my DD is even at the same level of ability for all the assignments in the book -- some she might be able to do almost independently and others she might need a lot of help on (and i'm not just talking about the early assignments vs. the later ones -- even for various assignments toward the beginning of the book). So I am trying to take each lesson one by one and see what she is ready for in terms of the amount of help she requires. I don't think we'll repeat any right away unless she wants to...and then we may come back and revisit some much later on as it is clear her ability is improving and she might like to re-try an earlier assignment more independently or on a different topic. Sorry if that's not very clear. I think is meant to be flexible, which is why the directions aren't more clear.
Hunter
Write On! is meant to be adaptable. The priority lessons are clearly marked in bold. Those should be repeated as necessary. Many of the non priority lessons can be skipped or just done once.
kfeusse
ok...so as I am looking at the first set of lessons...the first 4 lessons are to be done once, but when we hit Riddles, that should be done 4 times and then the next 4 lessons once (if we want)....is that the right pattern? How many times a week is a good amount? I know that it might vary from kid to kid...but on the average, 2-3 times a week.....3-4? thanks for your help. I have tried so many different writing programs and none of them have worked for us...so I really want this one to work.
kirstenhill
Did you see the sample Lesson Plan Order way in the back? It's the last two printed pages of the book. They suggest an order of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 5, 7, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 10, 13, 14, 10, 15, 16, etc. That being said, I think you can even skip some lessons, do them out of order, etc. We started out working through lessons 1-5, but then skipped way ahead to 15 because my DD had to give a 3 minute oral report on a topic of her choice at our co-op for "expert day", so we used the techniques in lessons 15-16 as I helped her write her report. While we were working on the first 5 lessons I think we were working on it about 3 times/week (we spent more than one day on the riddles). Then we needed to work on DD's expert day report and we worked on that every day that we did any school work the past two weeks. So I think it is really flexible for however you want to use it. kfeusse
I didn't see that page at the end..thanks. Wonder why it's at the end and not the beginning.
Hunter
I have a download from a couple years ago. I don't know if I have that page.
