Please only answer if you bought a sienna NEW, from a dealer. Our Toyota dealer is one of the larger dealers - but when I bought my last van, the only sienna's they had in stock did NOT come with a warranty. I was told if I wanted one with a warranty - I'd have to wait several months. My sil bought a sienna - and they waited four months so they could get a warranty. The dealer claimed those in stock were used, but they only had 10 miles on them and were very obviously new. I was told by someone it had to do with import laws. anyone else have anything like this happen? (I was only looking at the sienna to humor my mother, but if I had been interested - that thing with the warranty would have killed any interest.)

They should be under warranty until the 3 (or however many) years x # of miles. No matter how many owners it has had. I've bought one new, and one used. The used had a year of original warranty and another year because it was certified used.

My neighbor owns a dealership. It is my understanding that they are new until they are registered. The dealer is basically saying by taking a car on a test drive it automatically becomes used.

I have never heard of a Toyota dealer not offering the manufacturer's warrantee on a Toyota product. That sounds very fishy to me. My Sienna is 13 years old and running strong. If were were in need of a van again I would definitely get another one.

It definitely sounds fishy. The only thing I can think is they are trying to sell more extended warranties by making you think the car doesn't have one. When in fact, even with an extended warranty, Toyota still covers the first 3 years (the original) and the extended doesn't kick in until after that.

It was really odd to me - but this is one of the larger Toyota dealers in the area, if not the west coast. If I recall correctly, I was left with the impression they were bringing them in through Canada to get around US import from japan quotas.

That is very odd. I don't get the imported thing either, as my Sienna was made in Indiana!

I agree w/ Ellen- I have never heard of them not offering a warranty w/ a new vehicle- any dealership, not just Toyota. Makes me want to call the company (not dealership) and ask them what's going on! I wouldn't buy from the dealership- something's fishy.

I was thinking the same thing. If a dealership told me this I'd be calling corporate in a heartbeat to find out what's up. The import thing sounds like hookey to me too. It still goes back to, if I take it on a test drive it's no longer new? If it has something to do with importing (which I don't believe) then they'd be used no matter what. They are either new or used, driving them 10 miles doesn't make a difference.

well - it is a very large dealership. I've passed them often on errands at both of their locations, and they recently moved into significantly bigger digs they spent a lot of money on (they're now building a parking garage behind the dealership. probably the most expensive dealership for amenities around here.) - over the years I've come to feel they personify "they are one of the reasons dealerships have the reputation they do". - I won't ever take a car there for service. (we have three Toyotas.) anyway - I didn't like the sienna so I wasn't seriously looking - but that squicked me out so much it was a big turn off and no way would I have considered buying from them. my distrust of them as a dealer has only grown over the years. something just doesn't sit right. I don't want to go to a dealer that has that much money tied up in land and "improvements". (we have dealers in this town selling some incredibly pricey cars (well into six figures) that have very simple showrooms)

Gardenmom5, may I ask where you live?

Ok, did some snooping on your posts and I think I've figured out where you live. Are you talking about the dealership off of I90? If so I wouldn't believe it and will have to ask my neighbor about it as he owns the Chevy Dealership. There is no way they would ever knowingly participate in shady practices, no way. I've known them for 10 years, his wife is a close friend of mine. I've bought both my Sienna's there. Like I said I got the manufacturers warranty on a used car there. Also my first Sienna I had to order (they had none on their lot) and it only took 6 weeks to get in.
