Rebecca Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 that you can buy at the regular grocery store? Does anyone with dairy and tree nut allergies have treats they buy for Easter from the regular grocery store? I know we can have DumDums and Twizzlers. I am wondering if there are any other tried and true treats that others have had success with. We usually make our own PB cups using Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips and Smuckers PB. We also buy a small amount of chocolate from Amandas Own- however, I would like to add a bit to the selection this year. Thank you for any BTDT experience, Rebecca Quote
TravelingChris Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Look for dark chocolate. It doesn't have milk. I would look at makers like Lindt. Quote
Harriet Vane Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 World Market has a selection that includes a lot of imported food items. Often there are quirky things there that are non-dairy. I also look for dark chocolate. Sometimes I make rice krispy treats with Earth Balance butter. Avoid anything with caramel. Marshmallow peeps Jelly beans Gummi bears Quote
Dana Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I haven't found dark chocolate that doesn't have cross contamination issues with tree nuts or peanuts :( Enjoy Life makes rice milk bars, dark chocolate bars, and my son's favorite, rice milk bars with krispies in them. He also can have Skittles. Quote
HappyLady Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Divvies online sells dairy and nut free items. You could also try veganessentials.com. I know their stuff is dairy free, but you might find something that's nut free as well. Quote
mommymilkies Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Look for dark chocolate. It doesn't have milk. I would look at makers like Lindt. Not always. Ghiradelli is one that has dairy free ss chocolate, but not dark for many types. Plus there's the nut issue. I would stick with something like Skittles. Quote
almondbutterandjelly Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Peeps. Most jellybeans. Starburst. Gummy bears. Much of your fruity candy. Dots. Jujyfruits. Smarties. Cotton candy. Skittles. Spice drops. Fruit slices. Laffy Taffy. (We have milk, egg, and peanut allergies.) Quote
Crimson Wife Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Do you have a Whole Foods near you? Mine sells a bunch of vegan chocolate bars (not sure about the tree nut issue because I've never had to pay attention to that). Quote
Spryte Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Most of my suggestions are already listed, but Hershey's is very good about listing for "may contains"... You probably know that already, and I'm really not sure about the dairy issue, as we are new to dairy allergies here. We went with Enjoy Life, and DH brought home some from Germany that we know is safe - otherwise I would have checked Vermont Nut Free (again, though, we're new to dairy allergies, so maybe VNF is now out of the question). I did notice today that Peeps have a "may contain" for milk. :( The package I picked up did, anyway. Quote
Dana Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I did notice today that Peeps have a "may contain" for milk. :( The package I picked up did, anyway. Some last year had that as well.... our son has a dairy allergy and he still ate them without reactions. I think we tried to buy packages that didn't have "may contains" but we let him have some anyway. (I ate more of them....) Quote

I will check for more packages and hopefully find some that don't have the warning. Quote
MomatHWTK Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Check the Wonka brand candies, we've found some of them to be safe in past years. Baker's used to sell unsweetened chocolate in the bakery section that we could use. Some of the stores in our area carry Enjoy Life chocolate chips. Flavored marshmallows? Peeps? Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 We have gone non-food for easter baskets. Our kids are getting legos, sunglasses, flip flops, etc. (We have food dye issues as well.) Quote
gardenmom5 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I like starburst jelly beans. or jelly bellys (a couple grocery stores around here have them in bulk.) we can also get high quality dark chocolate bars that are dairy free in the "adult gourmet candy" section. read labels. eta: the better quality dark chocolates (re: more expensive) won't have milkfat. *LC Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 It has been a while since we dealt with those allergies, but York's peppermint patties use to be safe for those allergies. Quote
claire up north Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Starbursts and skittles are favs around here. Also dots. And jolly ranchers. Quote
