kjaye
I'm trying to plan out our Language Arts curriculum for next year. I'm strongly considering Brave Writer for my boys. If you've used it, did you love it or hate it? Which components did you use? Thanks!
ByGrace3
Well, I haven't actually used it yet, so take this for what it's worth! ;) I am about halfway through the Writers Jungle, and have thumbed through The Arrow and Jot it Down. I absolutely love what I have seen so far and am so excited about implementing it next year. The projects in Jot it Down will be perfect for both my rising first and third graders. We plan to use WWE narrations in history/science/ and read alouds, and use BW The Arrow for copywork and dictation, and Jot it Down for monthly projects. TWJ is so full of helpful information. It has been a great resource this far. BW seems to be the flash and fun our writing has been missing, all while giving me the tools to (i hope!) get great results. Would love to hear what others are doing with BW! :)
dbmamaz
I have also only read (most of) writers jungle but i loved it and started implementing some of it just from that. Her whole approach is so simple and wholistic. I have heard that her other components (like the arrow and whatever) look light but work really well. I havent used them - we are taking a break from everything except a weekly free-write while we focus on Logic of English. i also read her blog posts and fb posts - i find her very inspiring! jar7709
Love it. The Writer's Jungle helped me change my approach to writing and even though I still use some other curriculums, I now view our other materials through a BW "lens" which gives me confidence to deviate and embellish from what the teachers' manual says, making it more tailored for my kids. I use some of the Arrow issues loosely as jumping-off points for discussion and ideas regarding the books. We also have implemented many of the BW lifestyle ideas, including tuesday poetry, freewrites, discussion about art and movies, etc. Jot it Down wasn't quite right for us, but I am excited to see her upcoming products for partnership writing phase kids!
