Freckles
We found out today that dd14 close friend died last night. We were told it was from "huffing." She was a well loved girl in our community. Through dd's tears she kept saying "why was she so stupid to do that!" Lots of tears and adult conversations today.

scrapbookbuzz
So sorry! Your dd's question is a good one, WHY? A question she may ask herself for years to come. Tell her we are all sending her virtual hugs and many of us are praying for her!

Freckles
Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts. I'm just so sad for her family. I would be devastated if anything happened to my babies. Can't stop crying because I know her momma is so sad, angry, etc... The grief must be unbearable. I'm praying for them as well. sewingmama
So terribly sad when teens do silly things. Can I ask what huffing is...I've never heard of it
Freckles
Inhaling paint fumes, gasoline, glue sometimes via a plastic bag. The chemicals replace the oxygen in the brain and the kids get high. I don't have all of the details. I don't know if her heart stopped or she suffocated. It's why spray paint is locked up at the hardware store, and you have to be over 18 to buy it. I know dd has to be in the world, but I want to protect her forever. creekland
So sorry! :grouphug: I do wish teens could inherit wisdom - or at least learn it earlier. I'm glad your daughter can "see" the lack of wisdom involved, but it doesn't make the current pain easier. Take care. :grouphug:

Night Elf
That's so sad. That's the second teen I've heard about this week who died because of a bad choice. My heart hurts for these families. I would let your daughter talk and grieve as much as she wants. The only thing I can think of to say is that sometimes people do things without really understanding how dangerous they actually are. It's common to think 'nothing will happen to me'. But it only takes one wrong choice and a lot of people suffer. I hope your dd processes this so she can begin healing. :grouphug:

Joanne
{{{many hugs}}} Healing thoughts for the grieving friends and family. My oldest knows a peer who is 18 now who had a stroke due to synthetic marijuana. The risks teens take for adventure are unfathomable, but many of us reading know that we might have been that teen, or we have teens who are impulsive. indigomama
DH had a friend kill himself playing stupid games with a gun- similar to Russian Roulette. It was devastating for our whole community. But it's what led DH to ultimately decide to have a career focused on youth. And a lot of other people, many teens/young adults evaluated their life choices and made steps toward maturity. I will be praying that there is some good that will come from this tragedy as well. So sorry for everyone.
