dancer67
Who should NOT use coconut oil?I have read that if you have high trigs you should not use this. Fact or Myth? And please tell me which one to purchase if this is in fact, safe to use. Thank you lots!
tex-bex
Organic, virgin, cold-pressed coco oil is desirable. Cutting sugar and processed carbs will be the best remedy for high triglycerides. I don't think coco oil is bad for anyone, unless you are coco allergic. I found some info here: http://www.tgsformula.com/triglycerides_lowering_diet.htm

kitten18
I've been using the Vitacost brand coconut oil. It is extra virgin, organic, and cold-pressed. It is a really good price.
dancer67
Anyone have a particular brand they recommend? This would be for ingesting it only. (Cooking etc..) not for external use. Thanks!
tex-bex
Tropical Traditions and Nutiva are highly regarded. :)

I actually saw this on Vitacost but wasn't sure if it was good. Thanks for letting me know. Besides cooking with it, what else do you use it for?(for eating only)
Dandelion
We love Nature's Way EfaGold Coconut Oil. It's so yummy my kids actually ask for it as a treat, straight off the spoon!
gardening momma
Who should NOT use coconut oil?I have read that if you have high trigs you should not use this. Fact or Myth? I think it's a myth--goes along with thinking (myth) that you should not eat saturated fat and that you should eat low fat.
tex-bex
First 13 minutes of Statin Nation, talking about the saturated fat/cholesterol myth. It doesn't address triglycerides, but you'll get the idea:

It doesn't address triglycerides, but you'll get the idea: That was excellent. Thanks so much for sharing!

Callie
Tropical Traditions and Nutiva are highly regarded. :) I use TT. I normally keep a gallon of Gold Label (has a coconut flavor) & a gallon of the Green Label (no flavor) on hand.
Georgiana Daniels
What else can you do with it? I bought some but haven't used it yet. It looks like a big glob. Couldn't afford the one that looks like regular oil.
kewb
I usually buy tropical traditions. I usually have a jar of the gold label (coconut flavor) and gallons of the green label (coconut taste removed). I did buy the vitacost brand once. It was fine but I definitely prefer TT. I use it for just about everything. It makes the best popcorn. I fry eggs in it, use it in baking instead of butter, stir fry. Coconut oil solidifies below 72 degrees. I think it was 72 degrees. In the winter my coconut oil is solid. Once it gets into the 70's it liquifies.

kewb
Yes, it does. A gallon tub lasts me a few months and I store it at room temp.
freeindeed
I love Nutiva. Yummy stuff! It makes the best low carb pancakes when combined with coconut flour. Love me some coconut!
Georgiana Daniels
Good to know. Thanks! I'll start giving it a try.
SarahW
Interesting! It keeps for a long time, then? CO naturally has anti microbial properties. Unless you get some gunk in it, it will last forever.
Georgiana Daniels
I'll be careful to keep it clean. Anti-microbial sounds like a good thing :)
