mamakven
So, i had been tentatively planning to buy Queen Homeschool language arts, and have had an ebay search for a while now. Money is super tight, and now that we have Asher home, (my autistic 3yo who was supposed to be in school but THAT went really poorly!) i really really need something simple that the kiddos can do mainly on their own. The queen homeschool language arts fit the bill nicely, we've used that in the past, and aside from being a bit sparse, was quite good, imo. However, I was super excited to see that they just started selling Ebooks of the language arts series, and asked a question about it on their facebook wall and Mrs. Queen informed me that their copywrite policy is one ebook per CHILD, not even per family! So at this point, i am not purchasing from them, simply on principle! ugh. But i would like something similar. Any tips? Thanks! (i have kiddos ranging from Prek-8)

I'm pretty sure that's not even legal. If you buy it whoever you let read it can read it. It's called Fair Use. grrrr.... I wouldn't buy from a company that tried to do that either. But I'm not familiar with any alternatives, sorry.
Susie in MS
Wow! And they aren't even any cheaper either!!! I find that unethical as well. It cost them next to nothing to sell an ebook, yet they charge as much for it as a hard copy. I can see someone trying to print up those art pages in color and costing a fortune. And you have to buy one per child????? I second Emma Serl's PLL and ILL. (PLL for 2-3rd grades and ILL for 4-6th grades) They are not workbooks though. But they are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY cheaper than Queens. You can get FIVE years of lessons for the same price as 1 of Queens. The first two books on this page. Mama2Many4
You will probably be very interested in the Emma Serl Books as referenced above. They are called Primary Language Lessons, and Intermediate Language Lessons. We use them along with McGuffey's Readers and we are very satisfied with them. mamakven
thanks guys! i didn't even think of PLL and ILL!! i do believe i've seen a workbook version for them "out there" also somewhere... i'll check it out! thanks!!
claluck
AS a note there is somewhere out there workbooks to go with the primary language lessons (and the intermediate ones as well). I cannot remember at the moment but I did find them on google. So you would have something very similar in a workbook format. The person who did it basically retyped PLL into a workbook and sells it fairly cheap IMO since you can use it on multiple children ETA found it gotta get the right search terms... http://www.primarylanguagelessons.com/primary-language-lessons-workbook-part-
mamakven
awesome!! thanks!!
stripe
There's another PLL/ILL workbook, by Living Books Curriculum. Normally only sold as a printed book, but I got it once as a download. I have to say, though, she didn't give enough space for the child to write in. http://www.livingbookscurriculum.com/
Nicholas_mom
Here is the link for PPL & ILL e-books workbooks --- Just buy these, it's all you need. http://www.primarylanguagelessons.com/ I really like it and it nice colorful pictures for picture study. (i have kiddos ranging from Prek-8) I saw your post and Sandi's responses on the fb page. Wow, that's a really short-sighted move on their company's part. I have *never* heard of an e-book with those restrictions. She wrote, "like the regular books, our books are protected by copyright, and are for use by one student." According to that logic, we're violating copyright if I own the physical book and have child 1 copy her answers onto binder paper so I could reuse the book with child 2. Anyway, sorry you had that experience, and even sorrier to see Queen have that policy. :( It's penny-wise pound foolish. This is going to cost them customers. Mama2Many4
I have the workbooks typed up by Cyndi Shearer I believe her name is. It's been a couple of years since I first bought them so I forget. They are wonderful! I am using PLL with my second grader and ILL with my fourth grader. I've already been through the first book once so this is my second time through. Just looking at the samples these really do seem excellent. If I have to get a job where my dd is not able to come with me, I will consider these so she can work independently. :)

YES! that is EXACTLY what i thought- and as much as i hate to stick my neck out, i think the ONLY way for her to understand how customers perceive that is to have someone say something. Though i will say, she does have a whole lot of cult- like followers :)
