ApronMama
Ds9 has to have a contrast UpperGI with small bowel. Any tips on how to keep him comfortable or entertained as it will take several hours? Can he play video gameson a handheld device or phone? Read a book or listen to an mp3? What clothing is best? He has been throwing up randomly about once a week for over a month. Now he has been throwing up for 4 days straight despite taking Zofran There is only clear fluid coming up. he is keeping down all food and staying hydrated pretty well. Celiac test and abdominal ultrasound have all come back normal. He also has cyclic vomiting syndrome, and has been in a cycle yesterday and today, but the previous random vomiting seems very different. Praying for answers about what could be wrong. sbgrace
That sounds stressful. Poor kid. I hope they find an answer for you. Won't he be sedated? My son was not conscious during his. I'm trying to think of why they would do that procedure without sedating at all.
LifeLovePassion
An Upper GI is an xray series with barium, perhaps you are thinking of an upper endoscopy. Something to entertain would be good, book, games, mp3, bring them all as you may not be able to predict what he might enjoy most at the time. You'll have wait time while the barium moves through his system. They should also have a childlife specialist who should have activities available as well. The biggest hurdle is drinking the barium (IMO, IIRC). He'll probably be in hospital clothes, you could ask for pj's as opposed to a gown (barium can get nasty if he were to get sick from it). speedmom4
My ds has had two upper endoscopies. He was completely sedated for both of them. He didn't have too much time waiting around. The nurses were good about finding entertainment for ds. My son has had recurring peptic ulcers that cause night time vomiting. Changing ds's diet and medication has made a huge difference for my ds. I hope you get answers soon!! Elise in NC
ApronMama
It's an X-ray, not endoscopy yet. Sorry, I should have clarified. Thanks for the advice. We are really hoping for an answer. If you have vomiting kids, what dietary changes have helped? Cutting dairy didn't work and the doctors don't think it's gluten.
Splash
When my daughter had her the doctor just talked to her and let her see the screen and watch herself. We didn't do anything else.
