Momof3littles
http://www.rfwp.com/pages/royal-fireworks-press-2nd-homeschool-curriculum-conference/ Can anyone tell me what the food situation was like last time? I'm thinking I'll just pack my lunch but I'm curious what the food options were last time (catered, buffet or cafeteria type of thing?) I can't get emoticons to come up right now for some reason, but yeah, bag over head. Just wondering if I want to add food on.
UrbanSue
Another question, if anyone here knows, or if any organizers are lurking--does the conference actually begin on Thursday or are the dorms just open the night before? I don't think I could swing more than one night away from my kids at this point but I'm only 90 minutes away so I could drive down early Friday. Just wondering if I'll miss anything. I was wondering that as well. If it is just sign in and social time, I'll come on Friday morning. I am not staying over and just driving down each morning from about 45 mins away. THey mentioned they'll be posting a schedule at some point.
Luckymama
This is all based on the last conference, so things may be different. The food was cafeteria-style with several choices, including vegetarian. I made a point to sit with different people at each meal :) Thursday night was social time. We signed in, talked while waiting for people to arrive, then a large group of us (20?) went to eat at a nearby restaurant. BTW if anyone wants to do that again, I'd be willing to coordinate as I did last time :seeya: Many people drove up/down/over Friday and stayed for one night. Many others just came for the daytime events.
Momof3littles
Thanks, Luckymama! Very helpful! I'm looking forward to meeting you all in person.
Carrie12345
Luckymama, I'm in for dinner! I think I'm going to have my 9 and 10yos with me this time, so we'll be 3.
Kalmia
Luckymama, if you'd coordinate the restaurant reservations we'd all be so grateful. That dinner was one of the many highlights of the conference two years ago. Definitely count me in as one! I believe the lectures and workshops begin on Friday morning. Capt. Uhura and I are planning to bring curriculum that we need to sell or swap. If anyone else wants to do the same, Thursday night might be one good time for that. Though it could continue over to Friday night, I suppose. As I recall (and my memory for these things isn't perfect so please correct me if I am wrong) there aren't restaurants or convenience stores right near the campus and no refrigerators in the dorm rooms. So you'd have to drive a little bit to get meals or bring non-perishables to eat if you didn't want to eat in the cafeteria.
Luckymama
I will coordinate a meal then! Planning will commence later in the spring :) I've got some books and curricula I might bring to sell or swap or give to good homes.
