coastal academy
I am looking at it next year for my children and I would love to hear reviews as well. I saw that IEW has put together a writing guide to correspond with BF's Geography books which really sparked my interest for my 4th grader next year. Arboreal TJ
I'm drooling over it...thankfully my kids are way too young to indulge :-) I preordered "A Child's First Book of American History" today along with a few other books. A few minutes after I received a confirmation e-mail I received another e-mail adjusting the invoice to reflect free shipping! No idea why they did that but it was a nice surprise! I'm falling in love with all things Beautiful Feet!
Homemama2
I'm using it right now w/ my 3rd and 5th grader. We LOVE it! We had a couple of the Holling books (read them w/ AO but never added anything else in.) When it was time for my younger son to use them w/ AO, I decided to try the guide and maps and it has been so fun!! I hesitated buying the maps since they were so pricey to buy for 2 kids but I'm glad we did. They are high quality, beautiful maps and since they are so large there is plenty of room for labeling everything. Honestly, this is probably one of my kids' favorites this year. Using it with my third grader this year. It's her favorite subject.
5LittleMonkeys
How independent could this be fr a 5th grader? I plan to work with her as I can, but there might be times she'll need to do it alone. Also, how many times a week and how long per session? 5LittleMonkeys
Well, I just bought this from Hewitt Homeschooling...saved about $40 since I had one of the books. If you buy the set as is you'll save about $25 vs. burying it from BF. Just FYI for those two earlier posters who mentioned being interested. I'd still like to know how others schedule this. Homemama2
We only do it once per week but we aren't using Paddle to the Sea. Both of my kids have read that one twice (b/c they both used it for Ambleside themselves and listened in when their brother had it) so they didn't want to do it again. Doing it once per week gets us through the rest of it in one year. If you wanted to do this schedule and just save one book for the next year, I would save Minn of the Mississippi until the next year. It is a step up from the rest of them both in information and length of chapters. I think a 5th grader could do it independently if they can read a map and can do some simple research on their own (most 5th graders.) MY 5th grader would sit staring at the ceiling....but he needs a lot of redirecting. :glare:

This dd, fortunately works pretty good independently, especially if it's a topic she likes...she enjoys geography. Now, if it were dd14 ... Yah, I'm surprised she is able to breathe continuously without redirection. :p On average, how long did it take once a week? I was hoping to be able to have her work for about 30 minutes 4 times a week. Do you think that schedule would allow us to get it complete in one year?
