I was thinking you can sometimes find used ones for $110-$120 or so, however it has been a while since I shopped for it. I've got a while before I plan on using it so I want to wait for a good price, what should I expect to pay?

If you aren't 100% sure that it will be a good fit you might want to consider purchasing it new from IEW. They have a 100% money back unconditional guarantee. If you use is for 1 week , 6 months or even a year and decide that it isn't effective or that your dc struggle with it you can return it for credit or full refund.

I checked the IEW yahoo group where you can list things for sale and they seem to range from $100-140. I didn't see any that were currently available but these prices were from Dec/Jan.

Which package were you looking at though? Brand new it goes for $169 plus shipping. The ones that come as a combo with a student writing intensive were the ones that are closer to $300. I've rarely seen a TWSS/SWI set sell for $100-120 used. One or the other yes, but not both together.

Thanks for the info, yes I got some numbers wrong but the price difference is still enough for me buying used. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss out on a good deal because I was waiting for it to go cheaper. Now, lets see how cheap I can find it before I give up waiting :)

That's what I'm thinking! If I get a good price on it I should be able to resell it for at least close to what I paid for it. My list is too long to buy new unless I have to, I've got way too many books on my list and the cheaper I find things the more I can buy :)

I don't know about buying used being a better chance of getting your money back if you don't like it. IEW has a full money back guarantee no matter how long you have it. If you paid for standard shipping they even refund you that (if you paid for expedited they refund you what the standard shipping would be) as well as paying for return shipping. It's the only place I've ever seen that refunds your shipping and pays for you to send it back, even if you used the whole darn thing. I had a SICC sitting on my shelf for 2 years and never used it and was able to send it back and got my full amount paid back. I bought PAL made all the file folder games and they gave me a full refund and even paid extra for the shipping because it had all the file folders with it. Seriously, IEW is the best company I've ever worked with when it comes to curriculum.

I agree that it's a great company. All I meant was that if you buy it from them and spend the full amount, love it, use it, then sell it used, you will ultimately have spent more money than if you buy it used, love it, use it, then sell it used. If you hate it and/or don't use it, you're pretty much going to be even either way (thanks to their fantastic return policy), but if you do like it it and use it, you'll be financially ahead having bought it used. I do like to support great companies though, so after the initial used purchases I made (TWSS & SWI-A), I will likely buy direct from IEW. :)

They do sound like a great company. I could never return it for a refund though if I bought it, used it and liked it.

Well, no that's not quite what I meant. I meant that you can use it, even the whole thing because you were trying it out and wasn't sure how it would work and at the end of the year you evaluated and decided it wasn't going to work out the way you hoped, or you had to buy it for a coop and then decided that you didn't like the program but stuck it out because you didn't want to lose the co-op fees or whatever.

I just realized it sounded like I used the PAL reading with all the file folder games. I actually didn't use it at all. I'm just a huge up front planner and had put together all the file folder games before we started and then I realized it wouldn't quite work and fit in our homeschool.

I understand what you mean now. For me buying using has generally worked though.

I got SWI-B in today. I bought it for $20. I found someone who said I could borrow TWSS, perhaps she will sell it to me.
