Friederike in Persia Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Hi, my dds are about to finish Physical Science and I'm wondering if we need to get the kits for the following books. Since we live so far from anywhere and I've got somebody coming from the States, this would be a good time to do so. But do we need them? Did you use the Apologia Biology, Chemistry, and Physics books and found the kits useful? Some feedback would be great! Quote
coffeegal Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Hi, my dds are about to finish Physical Science and I'm wondering if we need to get the kits for the following books. Since we live so far from anywhere and I've got somebody coming from the States, this would be a good time to do so. But do we need them? Did you use the Apologia Biology, Chemistry, and Physics books and found the kits useful? Some feedback would be great! My sons are finishing Apologia Biology. We picked up the dissection and slides, and have used both. Chemistry's required equipment are safety goggles, mass scale, blue & red litmus paper, and a thermometer. Apparently everything else can be worked around. That being said, I'll be picking up the various kits for my dc because I've found having the appropriate science kits makes the difference in the number of labs we're able to complete. :001_smile: Quote
lisak Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I found that purchasing the kits each year saved a lot of energy in returning to the store. For Chemistry, you will want to add the toilet bowl chemical; it can no longer be purchased in stores. You should be able to find it on the supply list. We never went through the physics books, so I do not know much about it. The kits have been a help for Biology, along with the microscope slides and a good microscope. Without a good microscope, it is hard to see the images. Quote
mumto2 Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I think the kits would be easier but we are surviving overseas without them. We have skipped a couple labs because of lack of a substitute. Toilet bowl cleaner was not availiable. Rubbing alcohol was a problem until we found it online, vodka and surgical spirits were not the same. I get dissections from the butcher or watch on youtube for exact one. Quote
