LNC
I've been using the prismacolor hand sharpener and the lead breaks down deep inside the core. I don't want the electric sharpener to eat them up though bc they are so expensive.... What to do??
starlashine
I shave mine to a point with an utility knife.
nmoira
We use an electric sharpener. So far it's been the only thing that has worked reliably.
Hen
we always used an electric sharpener, but I think the prismacolors broke the sharpener- we've had 2 die on us. Timberdoodle sells a hand sharpener that is supposed to work with prismacolor pencils, I've been meaning to get one. here's a link sharpener link... Sugarfoot
Sometimes the kids will put one in the electric sharpener, but we try to stick to the little silver Prismacolor sharpener. It's really smooth--not sure if it really matters or not--but I feel like I'm doing what I can to preserve them.:)
jenn&charles
This is what we ordered for our Prismacolors: http://www.dickblick.com/zz214/22/ http://www.dickblick.com/zz214/12a/ I recently read that a professional uses a Boston electric sharpener: http://www.dickblick.com/zz214/12/ Also, I recently read somewhere that if your core is crumbly and breaking, you can fix it by microwaving the pencil for a very short time. I haven't tried that yet, so don't take my word for it! lol...
kls126s
Are you sure it's the pencil sharpener that's breaking it down inside the pencil? I thought it comes from dropping the pencils....? Then when you sharpen closer to the point where it's already broken, it slips out.
