Laura Corin
I recommend the Swallows and Amazons series, by Arthur Ransome. There are about twelve of them. If shorter/easier books suit better, then The Famous Five, or The Secret Seven, by Enid Blyton might be good. Laura
TerriMI
...Brian Jacques' Redwall series is loved by boys ages 9-16. They have pretty many pages total, (lots more than Hardy Boys) but are broken up into about 5-8 page chapters. This along with great descriptions and terrific, fast-paced action makes them easier to read. My three boys have loved them.
jail warden
Laura, You have made me finally realize I'm not CRAZY!!!! When I was in 2nd grade, living in OH, a teacher read us stories from the Secret Seven. I loved those books. When we moved to IN, I never could find them. And all these years, I thought I must have gotten something in the title wrong. But NO!!! Thank you! I just looked and Amazon carries these, I think I will be buying these for my children's birthdays coming up!
ma23peas
I second both series by Brian Jacques (Redwall and the Flying Dutchman)...the Three Investigators are actually being made into a movie so that would be cool for him to try those. Another short series (Mad Scientists Club) is from the 1950's but very good. Author is Bertrand Brinley.... And lastly the two books (Detectives in Togas)...my kids liked those as well! :) Mine also like the Christian series by Donita K. Paul called Dragonspell..there are 5 in that. Eragon as well...my son is 13 so we've gone through several series! :) Tara
