If we don't do a standardized test other than the EXPLORE this year

will DD still be eligible for talent search next year? I don't know what her EXPLORE scores are yet, and won't know until after the date passes when I have to have registered her for standardized testing locally (and I don't really want to test at home-I don't think DD would cooperate with me, and I really don't want to deal with it). She'd have to miss a day of her Athena's classes, which she LOVES, in order to test, and I'm pretty confident that I won't get any information from the testing other than yet another report where she hits the ceiling of the test-but since she's never done anything like the EXPLORE before, I can see equal possibilities of her having done quite well, or having blown it entirely because she didn't pay attention to the whole question, or because she gridded across instead of down, or because she missed a question and got off by one.

She is not required to test this year for our cover school-however, this IS a testing grade were she in PS, so it's a grade that they'll expect test scores on file if she had to go back to PS.

I think that if she took the Explore this year (through talent search?) she'd be eligible for talent searches in subsequent years.

No one has asked for my son's scores before signing him up for talent searches. I think you'd be fine.

As long as she hits the target score for the 7th grade program, the EXPLORE will be all she needs for qualifying. However, in our case, my daughter didn't qualify with her EXPLORE score to continue with the Duke TIP (since one has to requalify for 7th grade), but did with her Woodcock Johnson scores. She's always tested very well, no test anxiety, and has experience with bubble tests (we've done both the WJIII and ITBS), but this was her first group testing experience. I don't know if it was that, that she had puberty brain fog or what, but she came in one point under the qualifying score to continue, which was not what would be expected from her WJIII scores. She took the ACT this year and qualified for their Center level programs (highest level) in English and Reading. Who knows.....

She's a 3rd grader this year-so she's not even eligible to apply for TIPS until next year. Officially, she didn't have to take the EXPLORE this year-she was qualified for BESTS based on last year's test scores for their 2nd/3rd grade program, but they felt we'd get a better picture from the EXPLORE. My concern is-what happens if she has an EXPLORE score, but it's a lousy one? It was her first experience with a bubble test, a timed test (where the SAT-10 isn't, although DD has never been the last in her group to finish), and in a big, scary high school building where her feet didn't reach the floor at her desk (something she commented on) as compared to the cute little church Sunday school room where she takes the SAT-10 each year. I could easily see her having failed the test this year-so I'd like to make sure she has the chance to try again next year. But I don't want her to miss a week of the AAA classes, which she loves and are a high point of the week for her, and make her sit through several days of boring, not at all challenging testing, if she doesn't need it.

I wish I knew when the scores would arrive-she took it Feb 16.

Scores for the Feb test will likely be to you by the first week in April, to my recollection of posts from last year.

And to take the Explore with Duke next year, just sign her up. Easy. They don't ask for copies of qualifying scores.

If your state has no requirement for testing, then the ps is just out of luck if they expected to see a standardized test. What if you had moved from out of state? They can't say anything. In our state we have required testing years for homeschoolers and the Explore doesn't count. The ps does testing every year, multiple times in many years but that doesn't mean we have to have tests on file if we go back. We only need to comply with the law.

Another option for quick test results is the CAT online through Christian Liberty. We have done it many years above level and mom doesn't have to administer anything because it's all on the computer.
