momto2Cs Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I am having the hardest time deciding on writing, at least for ds (almost 12). Right now, he's working on basics, with The Paragraph Book (EPS) and Writing Strands 3. However, in looking ahead, I am not sure where to go... I would like him to do the Lost Tools of Writing at some point, but I don't think he's quite ready. In the meantime, which to use in the fall (roughly 7th grade)? WWS 1 Writing Strands 4 and then 5 Memoria Press' Classical Composition Something else entirely? Thoughts on this? Thanks! Quote
Woodland Mist Academy Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 My dd11 is using WWS 1. It's hard work, but she is enjoying it. (At least on most days. ;) .) Quote
EppieJ Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 We're looking at using Writer's Jungle in conjunction with history studies, and Writeshop 1. http://www.bravewriter.com/program/home-study-courses/the-writers-jungle/ (be sure to read the description - it's lengthy, but good) http://www.writeshop...l.php?prod=0011 Quote

And I need both the student book and teacher book? I'll take a look at Writeshop! Quote
Jenn121 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Thanks. Is it a really complete program? And I need both the student book and teacher book? My DD11 is also working on WWS1. It is a complete writing program but does not have any grammar. We really like it. Just my 2 cents. Quote
Woodland Mist Academy Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Thanks. Is it a really complete program? And I need both the student book and teacher book? It depends on what you mean by complete. It is geared toward academic writing, as opposed to creative writing. In order to have the maximum amount of hand-holding, the instructor text is a must. Speaking of hand-holding. . . The other day my dd made a comment about Susan Wise Bauer helping her with her writing. She even said her full name. She said something to the effect of -- Guess what? Susan Wise Bauer wants me to write an essay with footnotes! My dd was so excited I thought she was going to dance a jig. :p She then said that Susan was going to walk her through each part. It threw me for a minute because my dd spoke as though in the next room SWB, in person, was patiently waiting to continue the lesson. Had I known, I would have at least offered her a cup of tea! ;) Quote
