christielee7278
I have just recently heard of Ellen McHenry's The Elements (Chemistry)...thanks to this board. It looks like SO much fun! I already own ES Elementary Chemistry so I'm wondering if the two would work well together. Anyone try this already? Or anyone use both at different times and can give some insight? Thank you!! DaffodilDreams
We used Ellen McHenry's Elements last semester and wanted more so we began Elemental Science Chemistry this semester. We could have done both at once. Dd loved The Elements, but I think the basics are sticking better with ES. I'm not sorry we're doing both this year. Glad I searched this b/c this was going to be my exact question! Can anyone elaborate on how you used them together? Would you just add in Ellen's Elements as you go through ES or do Elements 1st then ES Chem.? I'm thinking of just getting the logic Chem for 5th grader and let 2nd grader follow along? Has anyone else done this?..... Thank you for the help in advance!

We did Elements first. When we finished that, we didn't feel done with the subject, so I ordered Elemental Science Chemistry (Grammar) since we've used ES for the past few years. We are doing ES Chem now separately. I do not feel like either program takes so much time that they have to be done separately, though - at least for us. I've only got one child to teach, though, and science is her favorite subject. If you decide to do both programs at once, you'll probably finish Elements first. It's a fairly short unit. I wouldn't try to make it fit a 36 week schedule.

Yeah, Elements is only 7-10 weeks.....she recommends to not use over 12 weeks. Maybe we should do that this summer before starting Chemistry. I do like the simplicity of ES but I'm also thinking of RSO Chemistry instead......Has anyone used RSO and ES to help me determine which is easier for me to use? I've heard that the Fizz & Bubble book used in ES wasn't the greatest and that a lot of people that used it didn't have much success with the experiments.....Thank you for your help!
