ProudGrandma
would it be wise of me to hold on to my MUS blocks even though I am switiching over to Math mammoth? What other manipulatives would be helpful for me using this program??
ByGrace3
We use/have used base ten blocks, C-rods, abacus, clocks, and the 100 number chart. Maybe more...we don't use manipulatives often but I am glad to have them when I need them. We started out with Saxon and I kept the manipulatives just in case. I am glad I did. hollyhock
As far as I know, the only manipulative actually recommended in the Gr. 1 level is an abacus. I have one but haven't used it much. Manipulatives aren't really our thing, I guess. :) If you like them, I'm sure hanging on to what you have would be useful.
tex-bex
I've just used base-10, puffballs, and some iPad stuff - telling time clock and abacus.
christielee7278
We have only used abacus, erasers, beans, Cheerios, and counting bears. The abacus would be plenty if not for my children's need for variety (a trait they get from their mom. Ha!)
ProudGrandma
so, is it safe to sell my MUS blocks then...I really could use the money.
EMS83
If you need the money, sell the blocks. I love our blocks, but I got a great deal on them. If you need manipulatives, like others have suggested; cheerios work just fine. ;)
Sophia
so, is it safe to sell my MUS blocks then...I really could use the money. My boys used them a lot in 1st and 2nd grade, not so much in 3rd grade (with MM.)
kiwik
Do they have Lego? I think that is what I am going to use for multiplication.
Paige
I'd keep them if they are used to them and use them regularly and like them. If they don't like them w/MUS or act as if it slows them down and they don't need it, then they won't need them with MM. My DS used MM from 3rd-5th and he never uses manipulatives. My younger girls have used MM from 1st-3rd and they use base 10 blocks, cuisenaire rods, an abacus, and 100 chart all the time. It just depends on your child.
