Brindee
You should try this! I didn't make it, I don't know the middle of the US very well, I mostly know the two coasts... :001_huh: http://mistupid.com/geography/uspuzzle.htm

NevadaRabbit
Fun! Love this kind of thing! Born in the Midwest and have lived out West for 20+ years now - so I still guess on CT and RI and DE. :)
Mom to Aly
Oh, no--you're not tricking me into this one! My sis sent me one like this recently, and I failed 3rd grade geography! I know the East and West coast, and the bottom, it is the middle that totally baffles me--it all looks the same ;). If I've driven it a million times (up and down east coast) I know it, otherwise, forget it. But I did call a friend to tell her, and she said the same thing I thought--give us ancient Mesopatamia, or Europe or something, no prob, but we never had US geography in school!! Isn't that sad! Well, maybe I'll learn with my dd this year--maybe not :).
keptwoman
I managed it, it took me a while though.
Mrs Mungo
I did it! However, I know the middle bit pretty well. ;) The NE took me the longest to finish.
fivetails
You should try this! I didn't make it, I don't know the middle of the US very well, I mostly know the two coasts... :001_huh: http://mistupid.com/geography/uspuzzle.htm I only know which ones are California and Florida. :tongue_smilie: I have a good excuse though - I live in a different country. :D (I *could* prolly put it together if the pieces had labels - still mixed up, but labeled with what state they were..It would take a bit, but I know where some states are by name... just not by shape!)
AnneC
it's all those little states in the NE that get me. We've got a much easier map in Australia!:)
neesek
That was fun! It helped that I live in Ohio, so that was an easy place to start!
Angel
That was fun! I mixed up CO and WY and forgot DE, RI, and CT. Ooops. I've bookmarked it so later in the year when we've done geography, I can test the kids.
JFSinIL
That was hard - the East Coast with all those tiny states! I am a West Coast native, currently living in the Midwest, so those bits were easy.
Brindee
I did better the next time I tried it! Is this 3rd grade stuff? So, I'm not even smarter than a 3rd grader, let alone a 5th grader?!!!:001_huh: :tongue_smilie:

Susan in TX
I did it! I always have the most trouble with those small New England states. One of my favorite toys was a United States puzzle. Susan in TX
newlifemom
I couldn't get NJ to stick. I put it in the right place but it wouldn't take. I wasn't terribly difficult as I just drove across the country, but some of the state shapes are the same(squarish) just different sizes. that was fun though. I love both maps and puzzles.:)
yslek
Wow....I did it....but some of it was just guessing.....:001_huh: :iagree: Me too! By the time I got to the tiny New England states, I was just dragging stuff here and there until it was right. :tongue_smilie: Kelsy (on the West Coast)

mcconnellboys
I *finally* got it, but it took a while, LOL!
3lilreds in NC
OK, I had to cheat and look at a map. Too many rectangular states, LOL! And I didn't have the scale in my mind correctly; I thought CA and TX would be a lot lower. This was fun! We're going to do some US geography this year - I am going to book mark it and see if the kids can do it.
Mom2boys
I also struggled with DE and RI. But really, does anyone outside of Delaware and Rhode Island know where those states are??? :001_huh:
cathmom
I did it. It took me a while. I don't know what a lot of states look like offhand. I started with MI, and then went east till I hit the Atlantic, then south, then worked west to TX and then north and west until I finished. I did not time myself. I saved this under my folder of geography games. I love geography! About NJ (and you would think I would know this since I am from there) - it doesn't line up exactly with PA, some of it sticks down below. Colleen
I knew that 5th grade report about the New England states would pay off some day.;) I'm a geography buff; love this kind of thing. Thanks for sharing!
Soph the vet
Boasting here...did it in under 5 minutes. But I was drilled on the US Map from the age of 3 for some reason. I didn't make it, I don't know the middle of the US very well, I mostly know the two coasts... :001_huh: http://mistupid.com/geography/uspuzzle.htm I'll have Nathan do it. He can identify every state just by the shapes -- without being on a map. Me? No way. I always get confused in the middle.
funschooler5
That was fun! The northeast was the hardest part for me. So tiny! :) I never noticed how much Kentucky and Virginia look alike. :)
BamaTanya
And I've traveled up and down through there numerous times! Of course, I was probably looking out the car windows and didn't notice state shapes. :) That was fun!

Nestof3
But Colorado and Wyoming are the same shape! Well, somehow it gets them right everytime on the flashcards. Rosie_0801
I know which bit Florida is. :D *singing "C'mon Aussie, C'mon, C'mon" knowing that only the other Aussies can hear the tune."
stripe
Well, somehow it gets them right everytime on the flashcards. He used to draw maps of the US for fun and label them. I'll ask him about it. I memorized the map in 8th grade, so I was able to do it (Delaware was my last state, and New England my last region), but I found picking out the "square" shapes to be annoying, and I lay the WY and CO on top of each other, and they were virtually identical! :)
Hannah
Wow! That was educational. I don't think I've ever looked at a map of the USA that closely!
JFSinIL
Fun - I live in Illinois now, so doing the Midwest was easy...I am from California, so the West was easy...it is the East Coast that baffles me. I just have to poke pieces together like a jigsaw puzzle to get those states in place!
Marie in Oh
my second grader (7yo girl) did it in about 10 minutes. But she is our visual spatial girl.

Okay, he said that Colorado was a little longer(wider) than Wyoming. He got them right on the map exercise he just did. He wasn't working for speed, though -- he had to tell us who we bought the lands from.
