Murrayshire
I'm curious about this and just wondering if anyone has come across it before?! Looks like it's geared toward middle school. Any thoughts? I'm trying to figure out science for 8th grade.....I know we are planning physical/chemistry mix but don't know what materials yet to use.....errrrr! http://www.jason.org/
dbmamaz
i have been fascinated by it but never used it. it was free when i first found it, but my kids dont seem very interested in 'extreme earth science' which seems to be what most of it is about. i was sad when it stopped being free - but really, my kids just werent interested. oh, and when i looked through it - yes, very middle school. not something my 2nd grader could have followed even if i'd read it to him. mommymilkies
I would also say more Middle School-ish, depending on which program from Jason. A board member sent me her old books which was so awesome. I can't wait to start. They really look good. Look in the clearance section and you'll find good deals, too. ;)
Paige
I have their Mars study. It is very high quality material, IMO, but very much oriented toward classroom use. I need to adapt things pretty often to use for 1-3 students. My DS (11) really likes it but my younger children only like the videos and experiments. I was disappointed when one experiment that I spent a lot of effort collecting supplies for bombed. It just didn't work and I don't know why. I think that can happen with any curriculum. It takes a lot of time out of one day and we were feeling overwhelmed for a while so I haven't finished it. I would buy another study from them if the price was right. Ours was clearance. I thought I'd use the online stuff more but didn't find it too useful.
Murrayshire
Thanks for the tips...... I did notice on a homeschool blog (can't seem to find it now) that the program was free....and it doesn't look free anymore, you are right! I thought I was missing something....I'll be deciding on Science for a while, I'm sure!! I can't stand being stuck!

Good to know....I definitely don't want something super teacher intensive(this sounds that way) but I like to be involved with experiments. Having things planned out for me is a major plus! ..... Thank you for your input!
Χάων
The Return to the Titanic is something I may end up getting down the road for DS. His top place to visit is the wreckage of the Titanic. But it is $80. For ONE topic. http://jason.pinnaclecart.com/print-curricula-packs/immersion-learning-return-to-titanic-educator-pack/

Way out of my price range for that right now though. Thanks for sharing!

At the time everything was still free online but I think it was worth the money for what I got. I have a teacher manual, student manual, poster, DVD, and access to everything online. Maybe you could wait around for a sale? I don't remember what time of year it was, but it seemed like they do significant discounts on old materials when they launch new missions. I wonder if I still have online access and if that is included with clearance purchases now.
dbmamaz
it looks like $88 for the full printed book and teachers book and cd, or 95 for a full year's access (meaning as many courses as you could finish - the materials are all on the website) for up to two kids or 125 for up to 5 kids. but you would need to either print the books or have the kids accessing them on line

dbmamaz
i would check with them, to make sure thats what it means - but when it was free, the curriculum was all on the web to be used for free OR you could purchase a hard copy.

I think this is still the case. After I downloaded the Titanic unit (thinking it was a sample) I ended up on a page with the videos and online interactive activities. DS watched all the videos and made a movie about the Titanic last night before bed. He loved and was trying to convince me to do the experiments. I think I am in love with the website.
