Ann.without.an.e
Any thoughts or recommendations? Places to check out and places to avoid are both appreciated :)
Jan in SC
What do you consider affordable?
Ann.without.an.e
Good question. We would really like to stay for 4 nights for under $500. I have found oodles of resorts that fit that bill, but I would love real reviews on them. Some of them have mixed reviews. We usually stay in Hilton Head but ds has had some major medical expenses and it has wiped us clean. We are looking for a cheaper option for this year. Thanks
Jan in SC
We avoid myrtle beach and north myrtle beach. I don't mind going into myrtle beach for a specific activity, but I don't like staying there, or eating there. We usually head to Isle of Palms, specifically, Wild Dunes, if we stay in SC. If you want cheaper, garden city and surf side are family friendly, but you'd need a condo for that price. They can still be a little rough, especially if you are used to Hilton Head. Litchfield by the sea is pretty nice. They have pools and beach access and a kids area, too. We haven't been there in several years, but the last time we went it was fine. If you have specific resorts you like, let me know and I can ask around to see if anyone has been!
Samiam
Myrtle Beach can be done at the price...you just have to be careful because there are some real dumps. Tripadvisor is a great resource . I don't see Isle of Palms being done at that price unless you are going dead of winter. Plus it's a pricey area in general in terms of restaurants etc. Kinda like Hilton Head in terms of cost. MB is the bet option just because of the sheer number of hotels/resorts.
Ann.without.an.e
I was looking at Myrtle because of pricing, even though I don't prefer it. We are looking at late April so it will be off season and hopefully not so crowded. Anyone have experience with Myrtle and off season? Less crazy? Thanks :)
Jan in SC
Early April is spring break for public schools here. We have lots of friends headed that way. Late April would be less crowded. It will be rather chilly here, too. I don't think the water parks and jungle golf will be open. Of course, the beach is there! I would make sure there is a heated pool at the resort. Susan C.
Is Florida out of the question? We can rent a condo In Orlando for about $100/night in off season. The property has a lazy river, many pools, kiddie pools, gold, water sports. You could also vacation "poor man" style..... stay away from the beach. In Charleston, you could stay in Summerville. In Hilton Head, you could stay in Bluffton.

Pawz4me
Myrtle Beach in late April is usually very nice. The weather is typically fairly warm (but not the water) and just about everything other than water attractions will be open. You might also look in the Cherry Grove area. It's right above North Myrtle, but more laid back and family oriented.
