Questions about Funnix

My four year old is on lesson 50 of Funnix. I tried 100 Easy Lessons first but he didn't like it and began to just guess at words. His older brother did 100 Easy Lessons and then switched to Funnix 2 when he was done so I don't have any experience with the beginning level. My questions are:

1. Did you use the workbook? So far I have only had him do a few sheets where he can glue on matching words or circle some letters. I wanted to concentrated on reading first, but looking over the workbook yesterday it really seems to reinforce the lessons.

2. Was it a problem when the program started to fade the blue letters? DId your child understand long and short vowels when there weren't any blue letters?

3. Did you go on to do Funnix 2 or switch programs. I am thinking of switching to Phonics Pathways or OPGTR after finishing all 120 beginning lessons.

Thanks for any feedback.

1. No I don't use the workbook. I also did not use the writing activities in 100 EZ lessons for his older brother.

2. No it wasn't a problem. He is used to hearing his older brother recite phonograms though, so I don't think it is foreign to him.

3. I am doing funnix 2 to finish out 1st grade. I like it a lot for this child. He needed more time to develop reading. For 2nd grade we will move on to Sound Beginnings which is an intro to Writing Road to Reading. AAS would be an equivalent.
