dakarimom5
I recently bought a sprouter along with some sprout seeds. I have never been able to grow anything, so imagine my surprise when I realized that my sprouts are growing! Since I have never grown anything before I'm not sure when I can eat my sprouts and if I am supposed to eat the bean that the sprout grew from. I should add that I am growing alfalfa, mung beans, and lentils.
Arcadia
For those sprouts, we eat everything including the beans that they sprouted from. I use them in stir fry.
Lady Marmalade
Really you can eat them at any point. I am not a fan of larger sprouts, I prefer alfalfa, broccoli and radish sprouts myself, because I don't like that big bean on the end. But when you think the tails are long enough, eat them up! My favorite use for fresh sprouts is on sandwiches. I have a batch in the window right now, but it's been quite cloudy the past few days and they're not growing very quickly. Remudamom
What do y'all do about the hull?
Ellie
I like alfalfa sprouts on sandwiches of almost any kind (well, except for PBJ, lol). They're yummo on tuna and hamburgers. I also like alfalfa sprouts in tossed green salads; even bean sprouts are fine in salads.
Lady Marmalade
What do y'all do about the hull? Whatever doesn't get rinsed away, we eat. Which is probably why I don't care for fresh bean and lentil sprouts, because there's a big piece o' bean hull stuck to the end of the sprout. Arcadia
What do y'all do about the hull? When I was a kid, the kitchen chore of removing the hulls by hand were done by my cousins and I :) The hull can be sun-dried and use as pillow fillings for baby pillows.
