kfeusse
Lately, my 11 year old son has complained of gasiness at night when he goes to bed. Tummy hurts...or "stirs" as he calls it. Some nights he is in tears, some nights it just bothers him. No complaints until close to bedtime...and it doesn't seem to go with a certain food or even type of food I can figure... I give him a homeopathic (Hylands) tummy trouble tablet and that usually takes care of it...sometimes it takes 2. But why is this happening? It's not every night, but nearly every night...kind of goes in spirts though....might be every night for a while...then it will stop and no problems for several nights ...and then it will come back again. Any thoughts for me?
AK_Mom4
I would start keeping a food diary for that kiddo - paying special attention to what he is eating for dinner. For my DD11, it was potatos, including potato starch which is in a million things. It finally took allergy testing to nail it down because for a while it looked like all processed foods were doing her in. I think I remember that dairy is often a cuprit in the "gassiness" problem, but I could be wrong.
kfeusse
we do eat potatoes nearly every night...but it has never caused a problem before...why would it all of a sudden something like that woule be bothering him. It's not like we have drastically changed what we eat...if anything we have become a whole lot healthier over the last year. This son is our target kid for the Feingold diet which we have been following for a year. The gasiness problem has been going on since about Thanksgiving time. (but again off and on) ...although our eating habits are very boringly the same.
jenn-
It sounds like reflux issues if it is only happening when he is lying down.
PinkyandtheBrains.
I don't think it is a food allergy, likely just indigestion. But allergies can start at any time. I developed an egg allergy completely out of the blue at age 35.
Tammi K
My daughetr never had a problem with dairy until she was 20. Then, all of a sudden, gas (oh my!!!!) and stomach pain. She eliminated dairy and she doesn't have a problem.
Laurie4b
Yes, lactose intolerance can develop later in life. It's not an allergy, just the lack of the ability to digest the the milk sugar. You can still have dairy, but either by lactose-free milk or use a lactose-enzyme tablet.

BellaMama
Are his BMs regular? Could he be constipated? Gas bubbles can be painful.
