MercyA
When I was in junior high or high school (late 80's, early 90's), I read a young adult novel about a teenager working in a bakery. I remember really liking it, but that's ALL I remember about it! Do any of you recall this book? I'd love to read it again.
Mergath
Was it one of these?
MercyA
Thank you, Mergath! :) Unfortunately, no; it wasn't any of those.
Rebecca VA
Teenage girl or teenage boy? Do you remember ANYTHING else about it?
MercyA
It was a teenage girl. The cover had an illustration (not a photo) of her wearing an apron, I think; she may have been a little flour-covered and there may have been bakery racks in the background. I *think* it was set in the present day (at the time). Sadly, that's all I remember!
nd293
Do an advanced search on World Cat. If you are prepared to go through loads and loads of results, you will probably find it there. Here are the results for the keyword 'bakery' and publication date 1980-1995: http://www.worldcat.org/search?q=kw%3ABakery&fq=yr%3A1980..1995+%3E+%3E+mt%3Afic+%3E+ln%3Aeng+%3E+mt%3Ajuv&qt=advanced&dblist=638 I am on my iPhone and can't see cover images. I have had very good luck finding half-remembered books in World Cat. In one case they had one copy of the book listed in a Braille library somewhere. And then, of course, use AbeBooks to get your hands on a copy once you find the title!
nd293
No chance it was M.V. Sexton Speaking by Suzanne Newton - there is no apron, but there is a girl and bakery racks on the cover.

THAT'S IT!!! :hurray: Thank you so much! In the hardcover version, she is wearing an apron. I'm definitely going to pick up a copy on Amazon. Thank you, too, for recommending World Cat. I'd never heard of it, but it looks very useful! The Hive is a wonderful place. If anyone can find an obscure, out-of-print, young adult novel, it's you all. :001_smile:
nd293
I'm so pleased I could help! Two years ago I found and bought half a dozen YA books I remember reading as a teen - they're waiting on the shelf for dd to read in a couple of years. I found your book by search on World Cat using 'bakery' as the subject search term, by the way. Enjoy your reading and reminiscing!
