taffnus
I just finished reading The One and Only Ivan to my 9yo and 6yo. It was wonderful. Every day we rushed back to find out what was going to happen. It was great for their ages but, I think, it would be good for older kids too (I understood quite a bit they didn't). It deals with love, faithfulness, purpose, and honor in a sophisticated yet accessible way. We cried (I more then my kids), laughed and cheered. I highly recommend it. We found this ad for it: http://theoneandonlyivan.com/ Side note: We didn't know til end that it's loosely based on the experiences of a real gorilla. Also, there are some details that could bother sensitive children.

Mothersweets
Thanks for the recommendation! I saw this at the bookstore the other day but the cover art kinda put me off - not sure why. I've put it on my list of tbrs now. Thanks!
