Just Kate
Ds will be turning 9 in a little over a week. He just started to school this year and he asked to have a big invite-the-whole-class-party, but I said no for two reasons. 1. Right now isn't the best time for us to spend a ton on a party; and 2. None of the other boys in his class have had this type of party. While he has friends at school, many of the kids seem a bit cliquish (it is a small Christian school attached to a church...many of these kids have known one another since birth). Anyway, ds does have a "best friend" in his class and we decided that he would like to do something with him. After talking with the friend's mom, I determined that a sleepover is out of the question (fine by me!), but that the friend can come over Saturday afternoon and stay until late that evening. I know we will order pizza and have cake, but what could I do for two boys to make it more fun? This friend has already come over for a play date and while I know the kids will just want to play, I want my ds to feel like it is a special time for his birthday. Any suggestions? Dory
For my little brothers 9th birthday we did a long treasure hunt that took them all over the property. We hid clues in tree trunks which would take them to the flower bed that would have a riddle that would send them to the basement. It took them all day. The treasure was their gifts (it was a hard year and there wasn't much for gifts), chips, popcorn, and a movie they had wanted to see. They loved it. We also had floats after as pop was a rare treat in their world.
laundrycrisis
Instead of hanging out at the house, would they like to go do something ? Maybe one of those trampoline park places, or a drop in laser tag place ?
Just Kate
Instead of hanging out at the house, would they like to go do something ? Maybe one of those trampoline park places, or a drop in laser tag place ? Yeah...I thought of that too. I kind of mentioned it to the friend's mom (we were texting) and she just responded with "why doesn't my son just come over for the evening?" I may try to come up with some ideas and bring it up to her again. If we do stay home, any other suggestions? I like the scavengar hunt one! Starr
I think the scavenger hunt is a great idea. Explorer hats or compasses, flashlights? Decorate for a theme or birthday. It'll be great. Having your best friend over at nine is lots of fun.
