ProClick fans: An option ZipBind

Recommended Posts

I was just looking through mybinding.com and found this option for something like a proclick. It's also from GBC, but it's called ZipBind. It has fewer holes and the spines work with a regular comb binding machine. The spines are like pro-click and can be opened, also it would allow a book to lay flat.

Wanted to share as some of you might have a comb binding machine already, also I think they are cheaper in general. The spine options aren't as many, and I don't know if there is a coil spine that would work. Just wanted to share. http://www.mybinding.com/.sc/ms/cat/Binding%20Supplies--GBC%20ZipBind

I have a sample of those and they don't seem sturdy. The little connector knobs broke the first time I used them and I dont think they can be opened up multiple times. For the price, certianly not something I will invest in more of. But I could just have a bad pair (the company was kind enough to send me a sample when I asked ).

That is good to know, thank you.

I finally took some photos and added a few more details to my experience with these. Since I really hate to give a negative review of a product, especially since I rely so heavily on others' experience when making purchases myself, I wanted to provide more thorough feedback.

This is the photo album with photos of the binding and details of the problems I had with Zip Bind binding: www.flickr.com/photos/xixstar/sets/72157632914461392/

I'm not sure they'd stand up to children using Zip Bind bound documents because it feels like they won't take much pressure to pop them back open. But since I only have 2 to test and wanted to get use out of the already-damaged-one, I didn't test this thoroughly for fear of breaking more rings. When I find the second one I have for testing, I'll see how sturdy they are with typical child use and will update this photo set when I do.

I would really like to love these because I already own a comb binding machine. They do lay flat, which is what I really care about, but the cost works out to about $0.65/each (buying a 50pk) compared to $0.13/each (buying 100pk) for 3:1 spiral bindings or $0.49/each (100pk) for ProClick bindings. These are based on the 5/8" size I chose at random.

I bought a box of zipBind spines with my comb binder, and after about a week, ended up buying regular comb binds. They just didn't stay together. We were constantly having to pinch them back together. It was never so bad that any pages fell out, but it was really annoying. I wouldn't recommend them at all.
