momofkhm Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 DD's went up by 3 points. In between the sample and the actual, dh spent 1/2 hour a night M-F going over the math and then the science that she got wrong on the sample test. I think that was 2 or 3 weeks worth right before the test. Quote
regentrude Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 In her first try, DD scored 1 point lower than on all three practice tests (which had identical scores). In her second try, she scored 1 point higher than on the practice tests. So, all in all, the practice score was a pretty good indicator. Quote
KarenNC Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 We used The Real ACT Prep book (2005 edition) tests for practice since I found it cheaply at the used bookstore. We only got through the first 2 of the 3 practice tests and she attended an hour or so long ACT prep class at the local library (mostly tips on pacing, what to expect, etc). We tested through the Duke TIP (she's in 7th grade), so we didn't put into prep what we might have if this was in high school and for college entrance. Real test: composite----same as practice 1, 2 points higher than practice 2 English---1 point higher than practice 1 (biggest difference in usage subscore---3 points difference), 4 points higher than practice 2 (again a 3 point difference in usage, 2 in rhetoric) Math--1 point lower than practice 1, 2 points higher than practice 2 reading---1 point higher than practice 1, 1 point lower than practice 2 science---1 point lower than practice 1, same as practice 2 Seventh graders taking this through Duke don't take the writing portion, so I can't compare that.
