Abbeygurl4
Can anyone tell me approximately how much tuning would cost for a baby grand piano that hasn't been tuned in over 5 years and has a couple of sticky keys? I just need a ballpark figure because I have no experience with piano tuning. Thanks.
violamama
It will totally depend on where you live.
Abbeygurl4
Well .... Any Ohio people out there know how much piano tuning might be? :confused1:
bzymom
Just to start you off with some range, I paid about $125 for my piano after receiving it. Former owner had not tuned in years. We didn't have sticky keys, but did have one soft key. My tuner is an old-fashioned guy, 40 years doing it, and tunes by ear. He was here close to 3 1/2 hours the first time. He comes every 6 months now, and it is about $75 for 2 hours. Hope that helps a little.
throughpagesandfields
My uncle's a teacher and he always said between 50 and 300... depending. I'd call a couple and get a quote. Unless there's something wrong with it - if it's just tuning, they should be able to tell you over the phone. If it's been a while I believe you might just have to get it tuned quite frequently for a year or so.
AnIslandGirl
Ours gets tuned twice a year (it honestly doesn't see as much use as it should). My dh just said we pay him $200 each time, but he's here for a good two hours. We're here in MA if it makes a difference. We prefer a standard A440 correction. PinkyandtheBrains.
If we don't need anything else fixed, we pay $80 for tuning. I am in rural Illinois.
pehp
Ours is about $80 for my antique upright. The first time we did it, it hadn't been tuned in 25 years and it took 2 visits for $150 total.
Tammi K
You should also consider that if it hasn't been tuned for 5 years, it may need a second tuning shortly after. Sometimes if there hasn't been enough tension on the strings, it will hold a tune for a short while but slip out. The second tuning is usually quicker. klmama
We've used two different piano technicians. One charged $125, one charged $110.
Abbeygurl4
Thank you for the information. I really know nothing about pianos. At least I have some idea now!
jhschool
$
Paula in MS
In our area, $100 to $125. My neighbor and I used to get our pianos tuned at the same time. My grand was $100, and her upright was $125. This was a tuning only with no repairs made.
Abbeygurl4
Well, I called a piano guy. He says around $95 but he won't know until he gets here.
