Crimson Wife
We may be looking at a need for me to resume FT employment and putting my two older kids in a classroom-based school. One option we might pursue in conjunction with this is a move out of the S.F. Bay Area to someplace with a lower cost-of-living. Is there a list somewhere of classical Catholic schools similar to Kolbe Academy in Napa, CA and Trivium Academy in Lancaster, MA?
MBM
I think your best bet would be to contact someone at Kolbe or maybe an area nun in the know. IME, many Catholic schools claim to be classical but aren't. I found that out the hard way. Ugh.
VeritasMama
http://classicallatin.org/ This organization lists Catholic as well as Christian schools that use the Classical Core Curriculum from Memoria Press. HTH!
VeritasMama
I just found this http://www.catholicliberaleducation.org/index.htm, maybe if you contact them they could help you.
Crimson Wife
http://classicallatin.org/ This organization lists Catholic as well as Christian schools that use the Classical Core Curriculum from Memoria Press. HTH! Thanks for the link. I have looked at it in the past and it seemed at that time to be heavily concentrated in the South (makes sense due to the location of Highlands Latin). If we move, it probably would not be to the South except for possibly Texas. Last night DH was feeling more optimistic about his job situation so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll be able to keep HS for a while longer. I just wish the economy would turnaround once and for all because I am SO over the rollercoaster ride!
UrbanSue
We have a bit of experience with the Trinity Schools. They are probably all in lower cost of living areas than the Bay Area.

Thanks for the link! Minnesota is actually on the list of places where we are considering moving (a good friend who lives in Rochester has been lobbying us for years to move to the state). Penguin
St. Jerome Classical School in Maryland looks interesting. No first hand knowledge, though.

We lived in the Twin Cities for a time and since dh's family is there we travel there every year. It's a very easy place to live except that the weather would be quite a shock after SF. UrbanSue
St. Jerome Classical School in Maryland looks interesting. No first hand knowledge, though. I know the people who started that school. That neighborhood is really, really great. And you'd have all the (FREE) stuff in DC to enrich life.

Nice weather is great, but a dramatically lower cost-of-living would go a long way in making up for lousy weather so long as there are decent job opportunities for DH.
