PineFarmMom
I'm thinking about SafeEyes, that Dave Ramsey recommends. I've been repeatedly convicted lately that it is time for me to place filters on our internet as a way to protect my children. I'm a procrastinator and I must. not. procrastinate this!! I'd love input on a filter to use. Thanks!! :)
AK_Mom4
SafeEyes works well. Another good one is K9. Both do an adequate job blocking nasty content but (and this is important!) are not a replacement for a good anti-virus program. Just having the filter is not good enough. BTW - the #1 thing you can do to keep kids safe on the internet is to keep the computer out in the open in a high traffic area. No computers in bedrooms or offices for kids. SafeEyes or K9 will help, but a determined kid will find a way to have inappropriate interactions online no matter what software you put in place. The filters are no substitute for active supervision.

The rest of what you said kind of goes with the territory of wisdom with kids and the internet. :) We use the internet more and more for school and music at the moment, so my hope is to get something that can help block things that might accidentally come in. My oldest uses music tutorials on youtube a lot, and that place can be a mine field.
RoughCollie
We used K9. I liked it because I could set it to bark whenever the kids tried to do something I'd blocked. And of course, because it was free, and it did everything Net Nanny did.
