Spy Car
A new search engine launched today called "Cuil" (pronounced "cool"). Has anyone tried it? I've only gone one search, but the results were quite different than Google and displayed differently. I'm intrigued. Here's the URL: http://www.cuil.com/ Bill
Michelle T
I was wondering how to pronounce cuil! Haven't needed to do any searches yet, but I'll give it a try. It would have to be awfully good to get me to break the habit of using Google. Michelle T
Kathleen in VA
Wow! Cuil!;) The results give so much more information than google and others. Nifty - thanks for sharing.
Lostinabook
Just tried it this morning after reading a news story about it. I like it so far & have put it as my default search engine in my Firefox toolbar so that I remember to keep on using. I really like the amount of info that comes up with each hit. milovany
I'll have to check it out! I haven't used google for quite some time -- I switched to Goodsearch (powered by yahoo) when I found it that I can support my fave not-for-profit organization with every search I do. elegantlion
Well anything that is pronounced "cool" deserves a shot.
Oak Knoll Mom
I think it has a long way to go before it even begins to knock on Google's door. Two things I noticed right away are that you can't search on just news stories and can't sort by date. Doesn't do me much good when I'm looking for something on a current local issue and the first page is filled with County Council minutes from meetings in 2004. I hope they do add more features, though. Google needs some real competition.
Amy in Orlando
Oh that looks cool! (Get it?) I agree with Robin, Google could use some competition. I'll keep trying it - I do like how your results get listed and the information provided.

It would have to be awfully good to get me to break the habit of using Google. Michelle T I gave it a try. I found it very confusing visually, too many boxes on the page, and not easy for me to make sense of it. I prefer the format of Google's results, just a straightforward list of results. I get boggled by visually "busy" pages, so I'm sure it's just my own perception. Michelle T
Crissy
Wow. I search using my husband's name. 2,042 entries and only a few of them were not relevant to the actual person. Google gives me 830, but many of them have nothing to do with his work. Interesting.

Unlike Goggle, which assumes its users are semi-literates (in my case this is sometimes "handy") and will ask. "do you really mean xxxxx? Still I'm finding the results interesting. fivetails
Ack, I don't like black backgrounds. :tongue_smilie: ..That alone would keep me from using it...
Rhonda in TX
Like you, I find it too "busy". I much prefer google's list. Also, my first search came up with 15 results, but only showed 5. There was no way to access the other 10 and no explanation.
TravelingChris
Well I tried two terms for local homeschooling and couldn't find the largest homeschooling group in my county but did find obscure blog pages instead. For the other group, again there was no link to it but down the page a link to another search engine which would presumambly link to it. threetreasurs
I just tried a search and the ads are way hard to ignore! I think I will stick with google.
Sparkle
I tried it out earlier today. It did give me some results that Google didn't for one of my searches, so that was helpful. The format takes a bit of getting used to, but so far I think I like it. Jury's still out, though.

It didn't do a thing for me. With google you can see more results on a page and scan through them for what you want. The graphics got in the way here and I had to scroll down to see many options.
