Our homeschool year is going ok. But, it's February. We're making it though.

However, I need some new reading-I want stuff about education and educational philosophies and would love some good parenting books. I want to be inspired and challenged as I plan for next year.

We are mostly classical homeschoolers. My kids are still little. Christian content is fine. I've read WTM but what should I not miss? And tell me why!

You know when I read, I try to read ideas that are really DIVERGENT from my own or from what I'm doing, just to see if I get pull something in and spice things up. Here's one for you, something TOTALLY different. It's on kindle for $5, though I have the print version, making it an affordable read. :)

Have you read Family Matters yet? It's by Guterson. It is excellent and not to be missed. It is not a how-to homeschool book, more of a why-to. Even though you probably know many reasons why at this point, it is just excellent writing and fascinating to read reasons explained so clearly.

Thanks for those suggestions! I'm going to make a reading list!

Christ-centered is good. I know that there will be things I won't agree with in many of the books but I'm wanting lots of perspectives, lots of encouragement, and some books to make me think.

In other words-I'm sick of Dr. Seuss and I need a book for ME! I would like to use my brain a little!

Another vote for the Charlotte Mason books, or For the Children's Sake. Just about now, school begins to feel gray and dreary, and CM adds a little life and color back in for me, as well as requiring enough mental work from me to make me feel like my brain is not entirely sludge.

I also am being very inspired by Charlotte Mason currently, but if you want some heavy duty mind work you could try Norms and Nobility by David Hicks, Beauty for Truth's Sake by Stratford Caldecott or Poetic Knowledge by James Taylor.

I also second the previous rec for Simplicity Parenting. Definitely a good one. :)
